Windshield ticks, creaks, noises

Has anyone had any luck getting this issue repaired?

My creak came back the other day and it drives me NUTS! even the slightest uneven surface and it creaks non stop. Between the windshield squeeking and the rear liftgate squeeking the thing sounds like a rattle can POS driving down the road.

I dont mean to be dramatic but this is the kind of thing that will cause me to sell my vehicle if i cant find a fix. These types of noises drive me INSANE!!

I have had a squeak coming from the rear for about 15,000 miles now. At first I thought it was a suspension issue.... nope, a complete change in rear suspension didn't fix that. Thought it was the spare tire... took it off and no change. Thought it was the rear window. Nope....

It was driving me nuts, now I just crank up the volume and motor on...

Got it fixed

I had the same issue and recently got it fixed. There's a toyota service bulletin on this issue that was recently updated to include 2010 and 2011 4runners. Just tell the dealer about the problem and give them this TSB number: T-SB-0141-10. Hope this helps.

^Great to know. Is there anyone who could post a copy of the TSB. I'm in Canada and the TSB numbers will be different.

Creaking noise in rear of 2011 Limited

I currently have 19K miles. For the last 4000 or so I've had a creaking noise in the cargo area of my Limited, it's driving me nuts. Tried spare tire, jack, tailgate window position, all with no luck. Seems louder at times of high humidity and rain. Happens when rear suspension hits bumps or vehicle is turning, etc. Any help would be much appreciated!

Has anyone actually had this fixed?

I took my rig in for this last week, the dealer said they "performed" the TSB but as soon as I drove off, the noise was 10x worse!!!

Asked em about the wicked squeak coming from the rear hatch which I have actually narrowed down to the stupid rubber and plastic stoppers. They kindly gummed it up with white lithium and sent me on my way.

Glad its not in my head. I have also hear the sound like rain drops hitting the windshield. I have 7k on my 12 trail. I also had my windshield replaced. It is a non oem windshield so im prob SOL.

That depends. Did you have it replaced with Insurance? If so, you should have at least a 12 month warranty from whomever replaced it. If so, I would go back to the glass shop or even your Ins company and file a complaint.....be safe.

My '99 Isuzu Trooper developed the same problem as it aged--worse in cold weather--and there was even more noise after I replaced the windshield. Try putting a strip of felt weatherstripping along each side of the windshield in the groove next to the black windshield trim/seal. Sometimes windshield caulking is not applied as well as it should be--especially when done by a machine instead of human hands--and little gaps allow small amounts of air to rush in which causes the ticking, tapping, rattling sounds which are caused by the black windshield trim/seal vibrating on the windshield. 1/4" felt weatherstrip pressed in may help to fill the air gaps. Hopefully you can find some with some adhesive on it, or you might not need adhesive at all. Otherwise the wind might force it out of the groove. And if it doesn't work, just toss it. It's a very cheap fix. It worked great for my Trooper totally eliminating the noise. Maybe it will work for your 4Rs.

Me too.

I sometimes have a slight windshield "creak", but my biggest issue was the issue in the following thread. It was driving me nuts. I thought it was a million other things than what it actually was. I also mistook this noise for a windshield noise, so it's worth taking a look to make sure this isn't what you are hearing. It's quite deceptive, sounding like it's coming from the A-pillar rather than in the wheel well. Check it out:
