Wiper/washer switch mist mod

Thanks for the excellent write-up. Two questions:

What are your final delay times?

Were you getting a double swipe when you had both caps in parallel?

Sometimes I get a double swipe when I hit my front washers. The wipers will do two passes and then return to the off position. Other times I only get a single swipe. I'm not sure why it happens, but it does...

Do you get the double swipe every time you switch to intermittent wipe?

Final exact times are noted above in the post.

I didn't get the double swipe during my temporary trials but I get it almost every time I activate the intermittent now. I don't get it when I turn off the intermittent during an actual wiper stroke and then restart it almost immediately. That's what makes me think it is related to the cap storage size.

You can get more than one or two strokes when you pull the stalk to hit the washer. The longer you pull, the more strokes you get. This is a normal feature.

So where do we get the correct cap?

BTW, I've tried to quickly tap my washers, just to get the wipers to wipe without actually spraying washer fluid. Of course this hardly ever works, but the point is that I tap the level really quickly and get nothing--no spray or any wiper movement. So I'll do it again and get a 1/2 second of spray and TWO swipes of the wipers. That's the usual scenario.

I'm looking forward to doing this mod when I have the time.

The good drmorbius sent the cap. Not sure where he got them locally. I could have got it online but the shipping and handling was prohibitive.
Maybe someone would set up a group purchase if there is enough interest. The individual cap is inexpensive if you don't have the other charges. Buy a handful of them, mail them out cheap and split the costs.

Finally had a chance to use the modded switch in real conditions due to the wet snow.
The extended swipe timing is excellent for the road mist conditions, plus I can now dial it back to the other settings as required, whereas before I never used the middle 2 settings because they were basically useless. The first double swipe is also handy to get that initial thorough cleaning.
Glad I did this mod.

I tried to answer your PM but the site would not let me. Per your PM on 3/8/08 those radio shack caps are not bipolar and are not radial leads so they would not work for this mod. I hope you see this because there really doesn't seem to be any other way to contact you.

He seems to have disappeared because I asked him questions on another threat a little while ago with no reply and in the past he was quick to reply. By the way I finished this mod and it works, to bad the rains stopped also. Got to just over 16 seconds on the slow setting, nice.

Funny it's not the full 19.5 seconds, where did you get the bipolar cap? Do you also get the double swipe?

The Caps came from a local electronic outlet the old MarVac now R-vac. I checked the timing with my watch, possible +/- a couple of seconds. I'll try and find my stopwatch to check again. Yes I get the double swipe.

Since you are local I should have told you that the caps I sent Kmvreter came from TAW Electric in Burbank, but I don't know how close you are.
