2008 Urban Runner 4WD Blizzard Pearl
Took out the factory 4Runner rug mats.
Left in place the OEM 4Runner rubber all weather mats.
Took it Dealer and they cut the pedal! Pedal circumcision!
Yes folks they nib it, and it doesn’t look bigger. (South Park)
No free Wheathertechs replacement, no thinner rubber mats.
All 4Runners are made in Japan and all have Japanese gas pedals.
The information that only American pedals are being cut is incorrect.

As explained to me by the Dealer representative, not the mechanic, so be skeptic.
The 4Runner “computer chip” will be “reprogrammed”…
“In the event of detection of full or almost full engine throttle acceleration followed by full brake pedal depression, the engine throttle will reset to idle, the engine will not turn off so that power steering and power brake will remain operational.”
I do not want to be sued by Toyota or anybody so there will be no "IMO" but until an official Toyota detailed statement and diagrams of what actually will be done dealers may do different things, and if recall repair is refused by customer, signing a liability waiver might be required by Toyota.

Alright, here we go as promised. a copy of the Campaign from TIS, it explains the recall and has some answers to your questions.
If you look at Page 11, question 9a it clearly states that the customer can request a new pedal if they do not like the repaired (cut) pedal.
Also under Page 9 Question 4a, the AWFM (Allweather Floor Mats) will be removed, but a new updated version is in the works and you will be able to get replacements with proof of purchase of the original ones.
Okay, gotta go before they find me doing this, or its... for me!

called the dealer. Looks like what blackworks said is right. They'll be doin the ole cut a pedal and replacing the drivers side all weather mat. The parts guy told me it will be an extremely thin mat and basically in so many words told me it was a pos. So looks like I'll be going with weathertech.
I contacted my dealership and they said that they have not been notified of a solution yet. Mine didn't come with mats when I bought the car (used) and the dealership was extremely difficult to work with. I ended up sucking it up and buying the all-weather mats from Toyota. Although they were nice, the driver's side is wearing out where the heel rests. I'm hoping that the "solution" is not to replace my $$$ mats with el-cheapo POS mats.
