How are these pedals different? They look identical.
Was this exchange covered under the recall? I will not let them cut my pedal.

Took the wifey's in last week for the recall. I can't say I've noticed that the pedal was shorter.
I didn't tell my wife how they fixed it and she hasn't said anything either. Unfortunately they didn't replace my AW mats (toyota brand). The driver's side one is worn down from my wife wearing heels while driving.
Anyone know of a good place to pick up the front mats cheap?

Hey, Any issues with your 1" daystar front lift? What are your pro's/con's??
I've had my 4Runner in now a few times for service after the recall came out and told them each time that I decline the recall. No hassles and they're like, ok fine whatever. Suits me as this is all a bunch of nonesense to cover Toyota's behinds from potential lawsuits from idiots and trial lawyers.

It is all a bunch of nonsense. But, I believe it's because of a deal they made with the gov't so the gov't would lighten up about the floor mat/accelerator issue. Either way it's BS.
Ok here is my $.02.
I purchased my used 05 about a year ago from a stealer. It came with the A\W floor mats and the carpet ones. The carpet ones went directly onto a shelf in my garage and the A\W ones were put in by them self’s. I noticed at the time that there was nothing to hold the mats in place. I did see there were two holes located right by the drivers’ seat were something would be used to attach them but the mat and the floorboard holes did not line up, so thought they were aftermarket and the hardware would not work.
About two mounts after I got it, I accelerated hard to get in front of another vehicle before the next red light. While approaching the light I found myself almost unable to stop the vehicle. I got the vehicle stopped just passed the crosswalk (very hard braking while engine revved out of control). Fortunately there wasn’t any traffic coming the other way so all was ok. While trying to figure out what happened, I discovered that the floor mat had slid forward up onto the firewall so when the gas was pressed it became stuck on the mat. I don’t consider my self an idiot, in fact the opposite. The problem as I see it is the mat has to be secured properly. If you move your stock mat up onto the fire wall you will see that the pedal is able to touch it (stick). The cutting and ECU modes that are being done must be to compensate if the mat is not secured properly.
I received my recall letter a couple of months ago but wanted to find out more information (wait for others). I have been following this thread and am very reluctant to have this “safety update” done to my 4R. The “fix” that Toyota has come out with is BS in my opinion and sub par to the mats that are in my 4R. I will not give up my A\W mats for the POS Toyota is offering (even though my mat has significant wear from driving). I drove my 4R for a year knowing there was a problem with the mats and that I needed to make sure they did not slide forward, ok maybe I am an idiot for doing this, but I have done just fine with it. So that's my contribution to this thread.
I do think I will be looking into the mounting clips. Does any one have a part # on these? Any one have a pictures of there mats installed correctly (do your holes line up?)?

They are free from Toyota - just tell them you are missing them. You can even say it's a safety issue.
They cut my gas pedal down without putting back any kind of rubber over the pedal like I had.Now I have a small piece of plastic.Feels cheap...Toyota should replace the rubber they took off
If you go back and tell them you don't like it they should replace the pedal. Personally I don't like the cut pedal because of the sharp edges. I drive barefoot in the summer when I'm wearing flip flops and prefer not to have the sharp edges on the pedal. Check out post #114 in this thread for a picture of the replacement pedal.

I opted to just have the pedal shaved since the mechanic at the dealer told me the replacement floormats would be cheaper, thinner, less quality and duability than the orignals. No problems since.

I opted for the fix on the recall. I have the clip to hold my mats too, but I don't drive the truck as much as my wife. She is not an idiot when driving either, but I rather her be safe than anything else. Even if it is something small and maybe some bs. I figured I get all done when the dealer fixed my seized calipers and axle bearings, all under warranty.

I had a similar experience to tictoc. I have the Weathertech DigitalFit Floor Liners in my T4R. I had a hard acceleration to merge on to the Interstate. My T4R kept accelerating to the point where I was passing people in the shoulder at about 80mph while getting honked at and receiving other gestures!. Of course I immediately reached down and grabbed the floor mat away from the accelerator pedal and my T4R stopped accelerating. (All of this took place in about 15 seconds or less). Once I got to my office I inspected my mat and noticed the hooks were not attached. I am a little OCD and always connect the hooks on my mats, however I remembered that the previous day I had gone to a local car wash and they obviously didn't reattach the hooks after they vacuumed. I sent the car wash a very stern eMail regarding the importance of these little clips, and that they need to communicate to their staff to always reattach them.
That being said I went into my local dealership last week for an oil change and they didn't mention the recall. I also do not want the cut pedal, so on my next visit I will ask for the replacement pedal instead.

I took mine for an A/C inspection and they cut the pedal without asking.
Still not used to it. It feels tiny.

Took mine in a while ago and forgot to tell them not to trim the pedal, but they didn't...guess I got lucky!
