During the annual inspection appointment I had this done. They told me I have a choice to accept the new all-weather mats or sign a relaese and keep mine. I looked at them, they were black (not grey) and kinda thin, so I kept mine and signed the release. Not really a big deal. Even the pedal, I didn't even notice until a friend told me about his and how they cut the pedal. I went and looked and they did cut the pedal but I never noticed it evan after driving about 1,000 miles.

Well, I've never had any problems with my pedal sticking either ... but my old all-weather mats had a hole worn at the heel, so I took it in. They did shave a little off the bottom of the pedal (not that I would've noticed unless I'd specifically looked for it) and replaced my mats with the "new" all-weather mats. A perfect example of "you get what you pay for", the new mats are thin and rubbery ... they'll probably wear through in no time. But I guess there's no harm done ...

I just had mine in today for inspection. They recommended the recall and modification to me, and I passed as many others did.

The point to me is that the fix is an option. Here in California people have difficulty with that word. In my experience someone makes a rule they follow it.....
I think the pedal and my mats (weathertech) are perfectly mated. In my wifes' Genesis I do get a little carpet hand up but nothing a little foot adjustment won't take care of.

I received my notice just a couple days ago, I guess its late because I moved 2 months ago and just started getting my mail to my new address. lol.
Well so I took it in the day I got the notice and I had TRD Floormats (hard carpeted) mats already before going in. They looked at it told me my Floormats were just fine and nothing needed to be done to the gas pedal and left my TRD Floormats in. So Im not sure here, lol.

It happened to me...
About a year ago, the sticking gas pedal happened to me, so take this recall seriously.
I have an '03 V8 4Runner. I was on the highway going about 70mph...keeping with the flow of traffic. I wanted to pass the car in front of me, so I got in the left lane and floored it...don't remember exactly why. I took my foot of the pedal and it kept accelerating. I tried to slam my foot on the gas pedal several times to free it but it didn't help. I think I glanced at my speedometer and it read 80 or 85. I ended up riding the brakes as I pulled over. Once I got in the shoulder, I threw her into neutral and shut the engine off and coasted in the shoulder.
Once I stopped and I looked down at the brake, and sure enough it was fully depressed. I remember pulling the floor mat back slightly because it was in the way. As I pulled it back, the pedal came back up. I couldn't believe it.
I checked the pedal to make sure it wasn't sticking, and it seemed fine. Once I arrived at my destination, I was playing with the floor mat for a while to figure what out happened. I keep my floormats upside down to act as all weather mats instead of carpet mats. Turns out, the rubber along the edge of the floor mat is cracked.
It looks like what happened was the mat was pushed up towards the pedal because it wasn't clipped in. The gas pedal got caught in a crack in the mat. Because of the angle of the mat and the way the pedal clipped into the crack, it couldn't release. The mat was stuck in its position because of the way its shaped...there is a square notch that fits snug by the drivers side door seat and held it in place.
Needled to say, that was the scariest thing that's ever happened to me in this vehicle. I ended up calling then NTSB and reporting it to them. I had visions of the accident in California going throw my head as this was unfolding.

That isn't a sticking gas pedal though. It's interference. My weathertech floor mat used to do that to me too. I cut a notch out of the mat which fixed it. I also took mine in and had the TSB applied. I don't have any more issues. They cut about an inch off the pedal as part of the TSB, but I have never noticed it.
Pure operator error! I've emphasized the part where you are at error.
Not the fault of the vehicle, and especially the mat, as the mat was used incorrectly, cracked, and not secured down.
How can you blame Toyota when you were at fault?

1 - your mat was upside down
2 - it wasn't hooked in place
That is your (ir)responsibility, not a problem with the vehicle and not something Toyota should be liable for.
If you have properly installed stock mats there is not a problem.
If using aftermarket parts or accessories, it is the owner's responsibility to be sure they do not impact the safety or performance of the vehicle.
I'm glad you escaped injury....but you caused the issue. And in the case of the gas pedal recall, Toyota has had to spend millions of dollars to protect people from themselves.

Toyota has had to be proactive to protect Toyota (plus owners) from owners who do stupid things and then file class action lawsuits.

It comes down to where its less expensive to do the recall....and that's really sad.
All I have see so far is user error. I may get this done- the part they shave off the pedalk is fine. My foot actually touches the pedal way above that. A thinner floor mat? I'm fine with that too...more room for my long legs.
By the way, I do make sure my floor mat is engaged on the hook and will not buy any that do not fit that hook. If the hook breaks someday, I have a problem.

I got my second notice a few months ago. I decided to go and get the work done @ Cobb County Toyota. I really wasn't too worried about it, but I thought when I sell it, the person may ask if I did any of the re-calls for the gas pedal. It took about a 1/2 hour and I got to read a story about a guy who had over a million miles on his 1996 Tacoma, I also looked at the new 4Runners and the new Camry. I really didn't notice any difference with the car when I got it back, which I guess is good.
One thing that was kind of cool and I guess totally useless information is that on my ticket it said my car was built on 04/05/04 and was delivered on 06/20/04. So, I guess my fix will be on thier computer system from now on, along with the build date and delivery date.

dont they make those aftermarket clamp on racy lookin pedals thats the only thing that comes to mind or riviting a piece of plastic back on...
