I'd bet 2013 at the earliest. The 4Runner is not a high volume vehicle for Toyota, and I suspect they will go after the high volume vehicles first.
I bought my '10 LTD with the intent of getting 10 years and 200K out of it at a minimum, as my daily driver, but if they offer us a 6 speed in the 4th year refresh and it gives just a few more MPG I'd have a hard time not trading up!
If Toyota put a 6 cylinder turbo-diesel in the 4Runner, I'd trade up rather than keep my 4th Gen for another 100,000 miles.I'd think you'd see the 4-cylinder diesel before a V8.
Yes, it could. However, each vehicle/drivetrain combination needs to go through emissions and mileage testing, at considerable expense. I just don't see Toyota going to that expense for the smaller volume FJ, 4Runner, and GX. I hope I'm wrong.A TRD V6 turbo diesel could be used across the range, however, in the FJ, Taco, 4R and Tundra, not to mention the GX if they do it right.
That was just a very old concept. There is no suggestion from Toyota that a production vehicle will look like the A-BAT.I saw that thing too, uglier than a squashed toad at the bottom of an ATV rut.
not discounting the power of positive thinking, but a diesel for the 2012 MY? don't hold your breath, man.My 2004 4th gen is showing its age a little but I really don't want to trade for the 5th gen at this stage. I am really hoping they introduce a diesel for 2012 because that is probably when I will be making the switch.

I know we have beaten this to death, but I really don't know why Toyota did not go with the V8 for the 4Runner. I know consumer reports is not well liked by many on here, however, I was reading a comparison between the GX460 and the 4Runner. Consumer reports observed the same exact numbers for gas mileage between both vehicles. 12 city 24 highway. The overall observed MPG was 18 for the 4R and 17 for the GX. One MPG? Give me the V8 please!! I would like the see the 5.7 but I know that's only a dream.
