2014 Trail Rocker Trim

Nice. I wanted to do this but the price to thip those mouldings was just ridiculous.



I ended up just cutting mine down. I'm pretty happy with it and it didn't cost me anything.

I was wondering if anyone has done this. It looks great and I hate the rockers but I’m unwilling to pay over $400 of my hard earned money on this mod. That seems ridiculous to me.

I’m wondering if you can remove/cut this trim piece and add side steps without it looking horrendous.

I actually use my 4R off-road so I need and want the clearance, but I also have a little one and a short wife who both need a way in once I lift the truck again.

Good call and not a bad idea...

Other than longer brackets to account for the side skirts, there shouldn’t be an issue with bolting up any of the later year running boards/bars/etc. to my 2010 SR5, right?

Well....running boards yes, sliders no. There are some sliders designed to go below the side skirts but most require cutting or replacing or just removing the rocker trim.

Just cut yours, somewhere in Antman’s thread he has pictures (the second time he cut them not the first). I was happy to get the OE trail rockers given they are all black and I got rid of the feaux chrome. There are no metal brackets on the trail rockers, the extra support is not needed. To answer the question I quoted, the rocker should be your only challenge, everything else is the same.

Referencing other comments, the benefit of OE rockers over shrockworks is that they don’t rust since they are plastic versus steel. Plus I didn’t order any clips, the trail had what I needed, your situation might be different.

This. I got OEM used ones shipped for less than the Shrockworks ones including fender end caps. Don't waste $ buying from a stealership, there are plenty of used ones out there.

For those who decided to replace the door flares, did you have to buy the weatherstripping and extra clips or were you able to reuse the ones from the existing part?

Currently my 2011 SR5 is running naked. I took the trim off to install SSO sliders. I was planning on cutting, but it just looks to me like the trim will stick out sideways too far.

Even after being cut it looks like they will block using the sliders as steps. I have a short wife and kids, kinda need the steps.

I shopped for OEM Trail trim pieces a while back, but it was going to run more than the sliders.

Does anyone have a source for decent-priced used Trail trim? Color doesn't matter; I'll paint black. If I buy replacements I'll try to sell my take-offs for whatever I can get.

Thanks to Antman’s write-up, I trimmed the existing side skirts when I added my N-Fabs. To give it a finishing touch, I added some trim purchased from Amazon intended to be used for your doors. It really cleaned up the look and masks some minor imperfections from cutting. I work too hard for my money to just shell out what Toyota wants for these small trim pieces. The project cost me $10 for the trim.

Best price I found was McGeorge Toyota in Richmond VA (Toyota Parts | Toyota Online Parts | Genuine Toyota Parts | Toyota Parts Online). Since I'm 1 state away, shipping wasn't bad. About $430 shipped.

Costs a lot for some plastic, but to me, it's worth it. Some of you guys have done really great jobs trimming their existing Limited rockers and they look great, but for me, I wanted the toe space. The limited rockers basically go straight down so even when trimmed, you have less space to place your foot if you put sliders or nerf bars on. Whereas the Trail trim fits snug to the body and tucks under toward the frame - leaving more room for feet if you have sliders, nerf bars, etc..

After looking at your pics again I meant pic of rear not front.

Know what you mean skinny at the waist. If I do this mod, eventually I would get some sort of aftermarket bumper (assuming one is availablefor the Limited), and possibly either aftermarket bumper or SR5 bumper for the rear. But with sliders or Nerfs the middle isn’t way too high for the ends.

I actually agree on “toe space,” if you will. Even with my trimming, my toe still catches part of the trim on the N-Fab steps. The looks is super clean though and I saved a ton of money. You can’t beat the look of the finishing pieces. If it was around $100 I’d do it. Over $400? That’s a bummer especially when it’s just for appearance. Clean AF though!

Thank you! I’m pretty sure you can do this with sliders or any variation of steps. You’ll just have to adjust the amount of side skirt you hack off.
