255/75/17 installed! Pics:-)

Yep, that's the tire and the price on the 255 size is why I bought now:D I can tell we think alike.

I took the TireRack price to my local Goodyear guy. He priced at a higher number but the total was lower than $108 plus shipping.

If you're going to stock them for later I say order them:bigok:

Good deal, I just ordered 5 from Discount Tire. I wanted to get the GYSA, but stock size would have ran me $1K for 5 so I am quite pleased now. Itll probably be a couple years at least before I am ready to put them on.

Alright, installed GYWSA in 255/75/17 and here my first impresiions. I will be comparing them to OE Mich CT which lasted a long time and were good on pavement but nowhere else really.
First thing I noticed when I got in a truck and start driving is ride height. I should have measured actual before and after numbers but it feels like I gained extra 1.5-2" of ground clearance just from switching to this size. I swear when I got in my truck I like OMG, did I just got a lift?? My friend commented right away - wow your truck is much higher of the ground now and has a nice stance. I believe this is a tallest tire you can go without a lift. There is plenty of room at the back but in front its a tight fit, no rubbing whatsoever and I tried full turns and flexing, no rubbing - confirmed.

these tires look a lot beefier compare to OE shoes

Tires balanced good with little weights except one wheel. On rough hard snow packed winter streets they felt less comfortable and surprisingly stiffer compare to Cross Terrains but CT's designed for comfort. On canadian highways we have a lot of cracks across the pavement (freeze-unthaw ground movement) and extra profile height didn't smoothened the ride. The places where I did noticed a lot of improvement is a large potholes and railway tracks, driving acroos them now is completely different experience, you just roll over
I cant speak of MPG for now but I suspect it will go down a bit since the extra weight
Then of course I was eager to try them in snow. Drove on town outskirts in open field to see how they do. We had about 15" of snow in December but I had a hard time to find some deep stuff since most of it doesnt stay in open areas and gets blown away.

As predicted Silent Armors performed flawlessly, I could not find a place to stuck. On a next photo you can see I drove through there once with diff locked in 4Hi and they were pushing it right through, seems like the only limiting factor is a clearance, that must be a rear axle marks, lowest point of 4Runner. No problems at all, can stop, then with some wheel spin continue to move forward. I had to try something also...

So I took 4Runner to a nearby lake. -7 F below, brutally cold, with wind chill more like -14 F. Even less snow in a middle of a lake but a lot of drifts on the edge where you can really get burried and so I did, TWICE!! So dont think these tires invincable :moping:

Dont have any pictures of my lake adventures since it got dark fast. But as soon as you hang on a frame you done hopeless (thats where lift comes handy). My buddy had to pull me out on Sierra with Blizzaks but every time we did it it was a brieze, just tighten the tow rope, and with my help it comes out with ease. My poor friend on Honda Ridgeline stuck and we had to yank the hell out of him, he could only follow our tracks, I was ridding a circles around him :reddance:

Very cool! They look great on your rig, especially with all the snow:D

Your stuck on the lake adventure just highlights what we all know, specialty winter tires shine especially in the frigid cold. As awesome as the Blizzaks are now not so much in July:D

Thats why I opted for Silent Armors. I dont have a room to store extra set of tires, so good and reputable ATs for me is a must. I also spend 95% of my time on a pavement snow or shine thats why I ruled out Duratrac's, it was my top pick before this great deal came along.

Most of the brands list this size as 32.1”. They're about .4” taller than most 265/70/17's. What are your BFG's? They're 31.5"+ or right at 32 also, right?
No, I was surprised, they are barely 31" tall. As measured with my handy dandy Stanley Tape Measure.

Just moved my front wheel liners forward but seems tires still hitting mudflaps on the rear anyone else getting this and what do I do!?

I just went out and looked again, positevly no rubbing.

You're not gonna like this... The Spidertrax are making this tight. Option 1: Remove the front spacers and sell them to me cheap for the rear of mine:D Option 2: Several run 285's & spacers with trimming and mudflap removal. I'm not truly up on the specifics but I know they do it.

A final suggestion, have you had an alignment lately? If not you can try an alignment and request that the caster be set at or very near the maximum positive value (of the specified range).

What about removing the mudflaps? Or seeing what i can do for trimming.. I am just shocked at how close it really is.. Yeah had an allignment too not too long ago

:iagree: it is the spidertrack spacers, so either you can remove them, or the flaps, just trim the flap where it rubs, or keep driving till it wears thru .

Does anybody know what exact speed difference with these compare to OE shoes? Tire size calcualtor shows 4.885% too slow or roughly 3 mph (Actual - 60 mph, Speedometer1 -57.2 mph). Somehow it feels more than that. Anyone with GPS?

Anyone with GPS?

49mph (indicated) equals 51mph on my portable Garmin GPS. Applying a 4% correction and then confirming it with the GPS seems to work at other speeds as well. Basically add 4% to whatever the speedo says.

My Odometer reads about 5.5% low which makes sense. It use to under report by about 1.5% and now it under reports by about 5.5%.

Is the GPS really that accurate?

My GPS shows me going about 3% faster than the speedo does, on stock 265/65R17s - not sure that means anything.

Good question... With my previous tires the GPS said the speedo was 100% accurate up to about 83-85mph. (I never really checked above that.) The timed, measured mile on the interstate confirmed 60mph, indicated, was really 60mph. I also have Magellan handheld that's geared towards marine use. Both GPS's agree with each other on MPH and they both agreed with the speedo (when I had about 25k on the OE Cross-Terrains). GPS speeds, in general, need to be accurate or the GPS will get lost. The speed displayed is the result of the distance changed/time. The only ways it could be wrong is if there was some line of code with a bad arithmetic formula or you were in an area of weak signal.

Is any of that precise enough to judge Olympic Downhill Skiing? Of course not, but I am pretty sure my GPS is really close.:D

So this tire fits without any lift? If so, the price makes this a very tempting option. Do you have a lift? Other posters make it sound very tight with a lift.

Thanks for the clarification and info. I am getting ready to pick up a set of these in 265/70, but the price of the 255/75 has me rethinking. Like some of you I am coming from a stock size Cross Terrain.
