It's real simple, before asking a question, perform research. When I sold my last vehicle, I knew I was getting a 4Runner. I looked at several 4Runner forums and found this to be the most informative. I knew what I wanted to build for, so I went through the build threads and found those which best represented what I was looking to do and read every post, multiple times, cross referenced other info and had a great base before I bought my 4Runner. I had also done all the research on lift manufacturers, armor, and so forth so when I asked a question, it was a precise question.

Well a fairly new post that is already NINE pages
Out of curiosity I clicked on it and stumbled all the way through it.....WOW!
First off when I saw that the OP was brand new here; lives in CHICAGO (where there is no where to use even a slightly modded 4Runner); then asks about 35 inch tires on a truck that really doesn't lend itself to that kind of torment; and it's almost brand new!!!!!! My first impression was he's nuts.
Second, anybody in their right mind who wanted a rock crawler should start with something that he paid less than $10 for. Maybe a ten year old Tacoma 4x4 would be better - That way he can cut it and weld it lots of times....
After about three pages I new he was never going to get any real answers but I read on anyway and as expected this has turned into something rather stupid....
I have only been on this site for about 10 months. I've mildly modded other vehicles - just enough to be able to navigate 95% of northern California, Nevada and Utah.....Since getting the '13 4Runner all I've done is put on the optimum tires - that's all that's necessary... In fact next week I'll be doing a lot of Ghost town side treks on my way from Beaver Utah back to Fernley Nevada (about 1000 miles) checking out Newhouse and Frisco Utah; Baker, Osceola, Hogum, Taylor, Ward, Hamilton, Treasure City, Eberhardt, Belmont Mill, and then on through Eureka and Austin. I don't get out that way enough so the wife who will be along agreed with me as long as we get to stay in some decent motels in Ely and Eureka along the way........
Back to this thread -> So after nine pages it has been an experience.... One thing I've learned is to recognize the user names of about a dozen who really have nothing useful to say - just skip their comments and go on looking for the useful ones.....
To the OP: Take a look at Intruder's Build and Adventure thread if you want to build a useful off roader. If you just want the "LOOK" there are probably MALL CRAWLER shops in Chicago that will be happy to take your $$$$ and build you something that looks like the Tonka Truck. Keep in mind that you will have something that really isn't practical either on or off the road....
BTW: for newbies here - In your first few weeks here take a pencil and paper and make a running list of 'useless responders" and just ignore them. Moderators not needed.

In both cases -> Some good 32" E rated LT tires foot the bill....

You still have the body lift... What tires are you running (sig says 285s...) I remember you having major issues with the steering and the body lift and stating you were taking it off. Love the new paint job, BTW.

I got a buddy with a 1" Body lift, 3" suspension, and he did a bunch of cutting on his fenders and fender well ... His rig's actually for sale.
Yes I still have mine but will come off soon.

So he had 35s with the 1" body lift with off-road success? Curious to hear more about the body lift as an option....It's just not been done on 5th gens much.

A big issue you'll continuously run into with a body lift is going to be alignment of aftermarket bumpers in relation to the body and our frame mounted slider options.
To me, a body lift isn't even an available option with what stuff is available for our tucks but that's just me. If someone can get it all to work cleanly then more power to them.

Pretty truck, no doubt, but not to use as some of us would like.

Yep, that was my first thought about the sliders and plate bumpers... but, those should be resolvable with some minor league fabrication skills.

Not trying to start something... But why is it not to use as some of us would like? Because it does not have big heavy plate bumpers and a swing out?
It actually looks well put together and done (at first glance). Just because it looks stock does not mean it does not have plenty of clearance....
Not being cookie cutter does not mean its a poorly done job.

Nobody said it was a poorly done job - not even sure where that came from. :shrug: And yes it has clearance but I would be concerned abut stuffing those wheels.
Again, we both are just seeing a few pretty pictures and have no real clue how it performs.

Yes, we only have pictures and a listing of installed parts. But the list looks like it was all resolved and actually built to use offroad.

Dude ignore these trolls that have nothing better to do than circle jerk eachother all day. Yes it can be done and its an absolutely valid question. As someone whos come from countless old landcruisers and built more early f engines and drivetrains than i could count, i didnt know dick squat about these 4runners. it will take a little work but can be done no issue.

I don't and am not but there are may different kinds of off road driving. Can that fully stuff those wheels without rubbing? If so, great! If not, that's an big issue depending on the type of driving.
