Yeah I found some removal for radiators and such but nothing for the seal sadly. Looks like when I get around to doing this I will be taking some pics and doing a write-up. Doesn't seem like this is a common thing or if it is they just do it in their garage. I don't have one of those anymore so hopefully I can find one for a week or so. I only get one day a weekend to do anything other than school work or work.

It's a pretty easy job once you get down into it, if you know your way around your engine bay you should be able to get to it in a little under 2 hours, swap it out and get it back together and running again in a little longer than 2 hours, easily a one day job.

This is encouraging. The only seal I ever messed up was the damn rear main. That was a pita. Most finicky seal ever. Got it right the second time though. Hated getting to it.

I second that statement.

Mine has averaged 10.8 l/100km or 21.78 mpg US for the 43,000KM I have driven it. That includes every single fill up.

I can often hit 9.5 l/100km or about 24.5 mpg US if strictly highway.

Stock except 99 tall springs.

Hmmmm, I'm getting 17-18 with the 285s I just put on. I was a little worried when I got them, since I have heard as low as 12 or so with the v6 and 285s...

I would put the money towards regearing - deck plate/CAI won't do much for the 3rz.

Can this repair be done in-house? I could well on do it but if the stealership says it needs cleaning then maybe I'll consider that before I do this.

Gears x2.

Like most 4 cyl engines the 3RZ just suffers from not much low end torque, gearing is the best way to use that higher rpm power band

If you go to the dealer they will rob you. I went there last week and I feel I got rob. I invest my truck on Toyota dealership almost $5,000.00 I was lazy but it's time to work using my hands.

My 4runner came with 4.10's and 15" wheels. I quickly upgraded to 235/85r16's (pizza cutters) on oem alloy 16" wheels I found on Craigslist and ever since have not liked the stock gearing. I recently purchased complete rear 3rd member and front clamshell from East Coast Gear Supply (great co.) with 5.29 gears and ARB lockers front and rear. At that time I installed new 33's (255/85r16) :lookout:

I did a lot of research before hand and found most people suggested 4.88's. But almost all of them had V6 with auto tranny.
My reasoning was;
-my 4runner is not a DD...only a weekend trail / exploring / fun rig.
-I have 212k miles on stock engine. I'm sure it's not putting out the horse power it did when new.
-I have added A LOT of weight...front plate bumper with Warn 8000s winch, sliders, full set ShrockWorks skids, custom built rear bumper with dual swing outs, and plan to add rear storage / sleeping platform.
-I'm past my 'go fast' years. (50 yrs young).
-I have no plans of adding SC or turbo.

I am very happy with my decision, given my usage. YMMV.

For reference, at 60 mph my rpm's are right at 2700.

Buy a new EGR or clean the existing one? I would be more than happy to clean the current one as opposed to going to get it done at the stealership. Also, had any experience with TB spacer? I know on n/a engines it doesn't really do anything for us but some people seem to have different opinions.

You have also the option to buy new EGR but I rather to clean main EGR/ pipe . But replace these parts I tell you.
