42 MPG - 2011 Trail - dash mpg photo

A shot of the dash on my 2011 Trail showing 42.9 MPG last month while on a return trip from NYS to Cape Cod...

The secret: fill up with 93 octane...climb to the top of a hill and let it coast down for about 7 miles!

I actually averaged around 23 mpg for the entire trip. Tires pumped to 40 psi and speed around 60 mph.

You don't need to fill up with 93 for it to do that just a downhill slope is sufficient

Or, tow it behind your Corolla. Your Corolla will probably still get the 42mpg even in the flats.

If you're wondering, it maxes out at 60mpg. I found that out on the 40 mile grade between Mammoth and Bishop, CA.
