Thanks for posting this tutorial! You did a fantastic job!
I'm going to try this for the first time. I was doing research and saw a lot of people recommending dielectric grease.
Should dielectric grease be used on the ceramic part of the spark plugs?
I'm almost at 115,000 miles.
Our Honda Odyssey has 120,000 miles and last week it suddenly began running rough. One of the plugs actually cracked and the ceramic broke at the electrode. The ceramic was completely gone on one side of the plug- the engine apparently ate it!
Never seen that before but it prompted me to change mine sooner rather than later.
You can see that plug here, at the top of my workbench- it's all black around the bottom...

The current proper procedure for wire tipped plugs calls for NOT regapping and if they have shiny coated threads do NOT use anti-seize. Still a good write-up though.
completed my sparkplug change out with the guidance of this thread. It went quite quite smoothly, thanks.
The only tip I have is to have some penetrating spray (PB blaster, liquid wrench, etc.) handy. I had just hit 127k on my 4runner (yeah yeah I know I should have changed it out a while ago :rtfm: ) and I started on the rear most passenger side sparkplug and it was TIGHT when I was trying to remove it, it was making the creepy, unsettling creaking binding noise, so I stopped and had a friend bring over some penetrating spray and I sprayed it down in there while I started to work on the next plug. After I got the next coil connector off I went back to trying to unscrew the rear most passenger sparkplug and it broke free with ease, no more creaking or binding. WHEW! Thank you for this writeup. :yo:
Thanks Antman!!!!!
heres to at least 100k more problem free miles!
Is there a reason for not using it?

Now that Gracie is older, has she shown the Chevy forum how to replace a water pump or a transmission solenoid yet?
 :target: :behindsofa:
This thread is still the best. :thumb3: Gonna be employing my 7 year old to do this in 2 weeks.![]()
God help her future husband.
this is awesome. you’re such a good dad. hope you had a commensurate Father's Day, Jeff!Grace is 9 now and has been helping me frame the basement in. She made me fix 3 studs last week that she said were “out of plums”. Lol.
She knows how to do brakes now too. If I tell her to go and get me a 3/8 drive 10mm deep well socket she (almost) always gets it right!
God help her future husband.
Why a four year old child could understand this report. Run out and find me a four year old child. I can't make head nor tail out of it.

Edit: Well done Grace, and thank you this is very helpful info!
