Looks are subjective and that seems to be the biggest issue with the 4Runner and the same was when they went from the 3rd gen to the 4th gen which looked more soccer mom than ever and got a bit chunky and the 3rd gen crowd got over it so it'll be the same for the 5th gens.

Its the case with every car in which there's a following. IMO, the 3rd Generation Limited is the best looking 4R. Admittedly, in 1996 When I was driving a 1995 2nd gen - the 3rd gen made me want to puke. The 4th never has grown on me. I tried to force myself to get one, but from the looks and the low seating position, I couldn't get someone's term "Camry wagon" out of my head. Now the 5th - Visually, it's a pretty big step, and a bit out of my comfort zone. Maybe at near 40 I'm at the upper end of the demographic they target with this vehicle? Some shots look great - like more of a truck. Some look pretty damn bad. Functionally, and price-wise it's a great fit for my needs. I'll make the final call when I see and drive one this coming weekend.

Big difference between the look of the 2010 Limited and the Trail IMO.

I saw the Trail in person (see my post) and it looked good next to my 07 Sport. Infact, based on looks alone, I'd swap the 07 Sport for the Trail and never look back.

Not a big fan of the 2010 Limited exterior.

i agree completely and won't be considering a 5G limited or SR5… it's Trail Edition all the way. the Trail's tucked up front, rear and sides are the perhaps the biggest aesthetic improvement over the 4G. but i wish they'd been able to tuck up the undercarriage too…

I actually liked the cup holders in the front in the 4th gen, I use it every day and have never had any problems with it. I like that it was adjustable to hold smaller items. I have never had anything fall out of it before.

I agree, looks ridiculous with a big goofy switch next to a cup holder. I am big on symmetrical layouts on interiors. Why couldnt they just put it on the dash like the 4th Gen, its not like it needs a mechanical linkage below the floorpan.

And on those snazzy floormats, to contain costs they went back to their roots, and charge only $25 a piece for cardboard.:lmao:

I don't like this look at all! Some things you get use too, but this I cannot get use too. I will stick with my 4th Gen a while longer. What were they thinking. If I am going to drop 40k on something like that, I might as well get a used Sequoia with low miles. I hope they redesign it. It is too boxy!!

Yep its pretty clear that majority feel the same way. BUT, is boxy always unattractive? Not necessarily. I am sure many will agree that a G-wagon or just about any Land Rover/Range Rover are attractive vehicles. And you dont get much more square than this (after a 110/Defender anyway).
So its really not that its boxy that sucks, its that its boxy done badly, and thats what you get with 'random vehicle generator' approach.

Not to open a whole different can of worms, but an LR3 itch started this week. I have always secretly liked Land Rover, never wanted to own one for obvious reasons (RRR - resale, reliability, running cost). But the LR3 seems to have done well and a good job of shedding the old P.O.S. reputation. Then look at what you can get a very low mileage 2008 LR3 SE V8 with extended warranty for. And compare the specs to a 2010 4R Trail.... The LR3 is a very well equipped vehicle, with a 300HP V8 and loaded with offroad trickery, almost every comfort and luxury feature you look for these days standard, and Land Rovers legendary ride...Let the research begin.

Not sure about the Limited, but in the brochure, there is a skidplate for the fuel tank on the TE.

This is from Toyota's website, here you can clearly see a fuel tank skid plate on the TE.

Looks like Toyota switched to a chain for the spare tire mount, instead of a cable. Maybe it'll be a bit tougher for theives to steal the spare.

Thanks for posting these pictures! Good stuff! It's my duty to warn you, I had a 2005 LR3 and traded it for a 2008 Landcruiser. Nothing but problems with the LR3 (same color as the one in your picture too). I got to know Landrover's fleet of loaners. There is also another 4runner owner here on the forums who had an LR3 with the same problems. I can't remember, but I think one of the Mods sent me a JD Powers Rating for the Landrover - dead last.

Around here, they seem to run $36k - $50k. That doesn't seem to be a bargain to me.

I got to know Landrover's fleet of loaners. There is also another 4runner owner here on the forums who had an LR3 with the same problems. Land Rover has been there for a while. What sort of problems did you have? Electrical gremlins?
