Yeah pretty much, I taped up all the bolt/vacuum holes and then I sanded the letters clean with a sanding block and a brass wire wheel on my rotary tool. It was a bit harder than I thought though, paint seems tough.
Anyone have opinions on how these wheels might look on a 1st gen? Thinking about picking them up.

Which bilsteins do you like?
I'm starting to think this truck is cursed! Drove out to Brevard for the weekend, driving great Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday, I could not get it into 1st or reverse. Clutch was totally inop and even though I didn't notice any dripping fluid, my clutch master cylinder was bone dry. I had to limp it home with no clutch doing my best to rev-match shifting but still grinding some gears. Really hope I didn't hurt anything!
Ordered a new master cylinder and slave cylinder as both of them look pretty rusty and ancient. I just want like 1 month without some kind of failure!

I think it turned out pretty good though I wish the paint wasn't quite so dark, also managed to break one of the old brittle clips holding the grill on. Need to find a new one. Valance on the way from ebay to replace the crunched one, it was pretty darn cheap, just 29.99.

Got my IPF's mounted up but not wired yet, was surprise to find the factory bumper already had holes in a nice location, just needed to bore them out slightly. Lights bolted right up and I will have a go at wiring them this evening.
Next on the agenda are some slightly used ARB shocks I picked up for cheap, they came off an 87 with a 2" lift but honestly with my extended shackles and sagging springs I'm not sure if I'm above or below factory ride height. Pretty sure ARB's are designed for a lifted truck. Does anyone know what the eye to eye length of front and rear shocks is supposed to be on this truck?
After that my I'm going to work on some little interior projects like mounting a compass, bolting down a toolbox in the rear for some semi-secure storage, and painting up some faded interior plastic.
Also finally got my engine core back to the shop, good to have my $400 back. What an engine graveyard out there!
Finally, While looking at wiring under the hood, I wanted to clean up my wiring and vacuum hoses a bit. I mising the factory guides that bolt to the valve cover. Does anyone know where I could get some or have tips for fabbing some up?

A little plasti-dip experimentation this week. Dark gray base, gunmetal color coat, then a glossifier top coat. Did a test run on the spare first and I think it turned out a little too bluish.
I like the overall look of the gray but I'm going to switch the gunmetal to standard gray to get a better match with the top. If I end up liking it, I'll powdercoat 'em!
Also, did a windshield swap through a guy at work. Ended up getting it super cheap. He wasn't 100% satisfied with how the rubber trim turned out and to be honest neither am I, but I couldn't find a full set of trim for a reasonable price anywhere so this is the best solution. Can see so much better at night without pitted, scratched up glass.

Got some lift time last night at work! I guess I didn't really need it for the work I was doing but it did let me get a good look around under there and so a little bit of underbody painting. I also determined that my leak seems to be coming from the front diff and not the engine, (I think). Got to get that addressed.
I replaced my rear shocks with some OME's I picked up on the (very) cheap. I wanted to do the fronts as well but needed a 22mm box wrench as I could not get a socket on the rear lower shock bolt. Hopefully will pick one up today and get the job done.
Finally I replaced a ton of vacuum hoses with silicone ones with a kit from LC engineering. Love the hoses but the kit doesn't seem to provide enough large diameter hoses, will have to get some more.
Finally finished plasti-dipping my wheels gray. It was a quick and easy job and the finish is actually quite good. Couldn't resist a glamour shot as the truck looked pretty cool in the shop at night.
Sorry these updates are pretty boring but I'm using this thread to keep track of everything I'm doing on the truck. It's more for my records than anything else!
