Well darn, thanks for the update. You planning to move them above the bar now? I think I will. They are so low profile it should be fine.
In other news: I got my Plano Field Locker dual gun box on.
I'll be interested in hearing how it holds up to the sun and the heat. I'm thinking about doing something similar, but with a way to easily undock the box from the rack. (I have some ideas, but haven't got to the point where I'm ready to experiment)

I can take all 9 bolts loose in less than 1 min with an impact. When I take it off I will just put the nuts back on the bolts so they are there for next time so install should be fast, that might take 1 more minutes. I am not sure how it could be much faster. Plus, you have to break into the box and happen to have an 11mm with you to remove it without totally destroying it. I'm shopping for locks right now so the contents are "secured" or at least deter people from opening it.
I bet it does fine longevity wise, lots of guys use the smaller plano boxes. I won't be running it full time. Just for trips where I will be off-road, though I am going to take it on my next non off-road trip to see how it does on the highway. The box itself is thick and heavy duty, deleting the foam and wheels helped some but still very robust. Its much more expensive than Plano's more basic boxes because of all this. I'd recommend it so far. I did my daily commute today (mixed hwy/city) and didnt notice it was there at all, even with the windows and rear hatch glass open. I do have MTRs so that is mostly what I hear.

Here's another option to quickly remove/reinstall storage boxes from your rack: EO2 Fastener
Seems like a good option if you want something securely mounted but don't want to permanently mount boxes on your rack.

On Thursday, [MENTION=139465]Ohio Hawk[/MENTION] [MENTION=149963]JMFP![/MENTION] and I got started on installing our three racks. Later, two other local 4Runner owners joined us for conversation and to help out. It was a fun day.
We took probably too long on the first install, making sure everything was lined up, measured twice, etc. By the second rack, we had it figured out and installed it (mine) in about half the time.
Hint: Don't worry too much about getting the rack lined up left/right before drilling the front hole. Just use the temporarily attached rack to locate the hole front to back. Then drill in the center of the trim groove. When doing the final install, center left/right at the back and tighten only the back two bolts. Then center left/right at the front. Then make sure the side rails are straight (not bowed in or out) and tighten the remainder of the bolts.
Anyway, we didn't have time to start the third rack, so we used the rest of the time to install my Gobi ladder and struts, as well as the two fairings and the remainder of the cross bars.
Of note: The first rack was on a 2010, and the rear-most crossbar cleared the shark fin antenna just fine. On my 2016, even using the rear single hole and rear slot, it interfered with the shark fin by a good amount. I temporarily put the rear-most crossbar in vertically using the last hole, and will order a single-wide crossbar to use back there.

On Friday, I installed my OPT7 32" lighter and the Road Shower 2.
And on Saturday, I installed the ARB 2500 Awning. I originally intended to mount it from the side rail using spacers. But the sag in the awning bag would rub on the vehicle, and it looked like it might occasionally interfere with the doors.
So I used a pair of Rhino-Rack Foxing Awning mounts that I had previously used on my Outback (and drilled to the correct 1.88" ARB spacing.) These work great! I mounted them to the Prinsu rack using the rack's supplied mounting rings. I'll eventually get appropriate fasteners to use, so that someone can't walk off with my awning using just a screwdriver or a sturdy stick.
I temporarily placed my MaxTrax where I think I'll mount them and took a few more photos. I really like the rack! It is *much* quieter than my Thule crossbars with Yakima LoadWarrior basket, and offers a lot of space and configuration options. I highly recommend it!

I origionally got their hi-lift mount but returned it. I hate that the pin is not on the mount but instead on the knob. Really dumb design. Also crazy expensive for what it is.
