Any reviews of the new Bilstein 6112's?

Could the 6112 be used at all with stock rear springs? It almost sounds like the first clip may provide a lift...

I'm thinking 6112 and 5100 rears for a nice almost level setup but not a crazy lift if the 6112's could be used to almost level the front.

At the moment I have Tacoma TRD OR front struts and rear shocks with stock rear springs. I love the way it sits but it's a bit softly sprung for my daily driving tastes. I spend more time towing than off-roading if I'm honest.

The bottom spring retainer compression provides the lift and the top of the shock requires a mount plate as well. So, there isn't anyway to just bolt them in on the rear. Bilstein recommends the 5160's for the rear. Although if you don't need the extra fluid capacity the 5100's would be fine as well.

Wasn't trying to use the 6112 in the rear. I'm wondering if these could be used in conjunction with stock rear springs to give an almost level look. 6112 in front and 5100 in rear with stock springs.

Ahh, I see. There should be no issue with using the 6112's to match the rear height & the 5100's will work as the rear shocks.

so would it be fair to say the ride is "firmer & smoother" than a stock 2015 SR5? what is the stock spring rate?

honestly i'd like simply "smoother" without the "firmer" if that can be accomplished. any ideas for smoothing it out more than stock for road trips with children (and the wife)? increasing off-road capability isn't a huge priority, since an SR5 w/ tires should be plenty capable for anywhere we'll go with it for now.

The less preload you add, the more comfortable the ride. I have mine on the top setting and it still rides much better than stock, but keep it on the lower settings and it should have that caddy ride. :hatsoff:

Isn't preload a function of the weight of the front end, unless you are running into something that limits the travel? I don't see why the ride should change if you adjust the height. If anything, if there is an internal air spring setting them higher decreases preload on that. And being higher gets you farther away from the bump stops. If raising them causes you to top out, then a lower setting would make a smoother ride, but I think there is enough droop that you shouldn't top out on the road much.

By putting it on the higher tab it compresses the spring more, thus making it harder and has less movement. This is called preloading as you are putting a load on the spring before you even put it under your truck. With mine on the top slot I have to compress my springs quite a bit just to get the top hat on the shock assembly.

after an unexpected delay, im getting close to pulling the trigger on the 6112/5160 combo...have bilstein come to any conclusions regarding the lift amounts for the various perch adjustments?? im going w 1.5" springs in the back, and im looking for ~2" in the front- from what ive read would this be setting #2??

Guys with 4th gen, which notch on the 6112 to have something leveled with the 2" icon on the back? I only have rci full skid, no bumper, no winch... i have tought about the 4th one..? Thanks!

Hi all! New here, and just picked up a 2010 Trail. The previous owner says he just replaced the shocks with Monroe units. Looking to do this lift. Does anyone know if I can use the spring hats, or will I need to buy Toyota parts?
