Anyone shopping assault rifles?

I hear that most ammo, and magazines have been cleared off of shelves. Probably auto loading rifles also.
 
Nope, I'm not. Purchasing a new assault rifle, that wasn't registered over 26 years ago, hasn't been an option for the citizens of this country since that time.
 
working on an LAR with an LAR ambi side charging upper. parts finally started coming!

anyone used the ops-4 upper from LAR? Thoughts?

What's the benefit of the side charging handle? I'm only familiar with the military M4's but to me it seems that those open slots on the side of the rifle is another spot to allow dirt and debris to come into the gun and dirty it up. The rear charging handle keeps the upper receiver mostly closed and the only open part is the dust cover.
 
Prices on ARs in the private market are nearly double their MSRP. Bushmaster Patrolmans (normally $999) are listed on Cologunmarket.com for $1,500 to $1,800. Expect to pay over $2k for a S&W.

PMAGs are on a million-unit backlog. Yes, a MILLION magazines!

If you didn't buy one last year, expect to pay big bucks for one through a private seller (and I can't even imagine what happens at the next gun show!)

Guns & Gold...the only two sure investments for hundreds of years.

Oh, and I agree with many other posters that we must stop calling these 'assault rifles'. This is a term used by our government as propaganda to generate fear in the uninformed. As responsible gun owners, it is our duty to inform our friends and neighbors that the correct term is 'semiautomatic rifles'.

Just pulling this out of my ass, but perhaps you only need one finger to pull the side handle, while typically you would use two fingers for the rear handle.

I always put a new charging handle on my issued m4 that had a bigger grip area on it so I could charge the bolt back with my left palm. That allowed me to keep my eyes on the target and hold the grip of the rifle with my right hand. It kept me able to use my left hand to operate the functions of the rifle and the right hand was the business hand.

That makes sense. I'm still learning the nuances of shooting an AR. I am used to a bolt action, taking my right hand off the stock to operate the bolt, while steadying the gun with my left hand under the forend. So with the AR I've always pulled the charging handle with my right hand. I think I will try it like you said with my left hand and keep my right hand on the grip/stock.

screw the fed..... states>fed....more bull hockey we need to fix... state laws should be greater than fed laws for the most part, that way if you don't like something you can just move to another state that's more for you, that's the way it should be at least, diversity is good! let the fed manage national security and expenditures and nothing more.


just woke up this morning and decided i'm going to pick up 2 more.....going for the m1a and an fal....that is if i can find them...figure if these re****s keep talking it'll be another 20 years until i can buy another and who wants to wait till their 50~60 for that kind of fun....

side charge is good for optics and shooting in prone, but like stated is bad for dirt, the upgraded charge handles in teh oringal configuration also help to deal with pulling on one side of the charge handle as with most stock ones if you load up one side to much,too many times it can wear the internals unevenly.

i was going to go side charge but decided to pick one of these up instead as there was to much work to convert and the advantages weren't enough for me to want to deal with it.personally.

You'd need to amend the constitution. Not easy at all
