2. Key fob can't roll up the rear window. Really? How hard would this have been to program?

I think it may be by design for safety reasons. It prevents kids from accidentally rolling up the window with the remote when someone or pet is in the way.
Or, you leave your pet (dog) in the back with the window open. you go inside the house and you accidentally press the UP button and it closes while your dogs head is sticking out the window.

You're kidding, right? I park in an underground parking lot every day. My 4Runner gives me this nice, polite beep report and I walk away. On the other hand, all the other American-made cars sound off with a rude and loud "HONK!" which always seems to startle me in the early morning.

I hate the fact that seemingly no thought was given to most American cars that they took the easy (read: cheap) way out and used the horn blast to provide a rude door lock report.

I'll take my 4Runner's refined beep any day over that. In fact, I often thought of this feature as a bonus.

I totally agree with you. The beep is so quiet in comparison. Some cars use the horn because they want to cheap out and it's so load. I can hear my neighbour arm his car at night, HONK. stupid. Toyota has the nice polite beep, that's all you need.

1. cup holder size adjustment, does not work well. cannot hold tall cups, such as a McDonald's large coffee without it tipping a bit
2. the pedal brake gets in the way if you rest you left foot on the foot rest
3. the thumping when coming to a stop and the need to grease the slide yolk regularly to eliminate the thumping.
4. Limited does not have storage compartments in the back, aside from the two tiny compartments. Would like a compartment to put stuff like jumper cables, flash light, etc.

Yes. Mine will do the one flash and you have to hold it to get 2-3 flashes.

The 4Runner can do this, but you just have to move the stalk slightly. The travel of the stalk is very little before it clicks to on and won't turn off unless you've turned the steering wheel more than 90 degrees and it returns to center or you manually return the stalk to the off position.

I hate the fact that when I unlock the car, none of my interior lights pop on. My door lock switches are either backwards or Toyota had "opposite Friday" when they built mine as I have to push up to lock the door and down to unlock.

I really love this truck though and wouldn't change buying it!

and you can set it so the interior lights turn on when unlocking the car. mine does this.

mpg is mpg. if u want high mileage, get one of the new hybrids and electro cars. it's not like there's a 4r sized suv out there fetching 30mpg real world. then there'd be something get on toyota about. 2-3mpg is just a rounding error when it comes down to $s.

I seem to love my 4Runner more each day, but I have to say that I just had to use the windshield sprayers quite a bit... THEY SUCK! That has to be one of the worst designs ever. Has anyone come up with a replacement that provides the more traditional and much more effective fan spray?

Another thing that bugs me is having the grill attached to the hood... it just doesn't seem very sturdy and I feel that I have to be careful closing the hood.

Other than that, I'm diggin' it! :jump:

My lights don't come on when I hit the unlock button. Programmable or not, I don't know how. Most cars I have owned, the door locks are pushed up to unlock and down to lock... I always do the opposite in my 4R. I don't want a hybrid, I enjoy my 4R. Doesn't mean I always enjoy the 16 mpg.
My complaints are no more "weird" than anyone else's.
For example; mine doesn't make any thud noises at all, so would I call them out for thinking it's weird? That's why we were asked what we thought of our vehicles. To voice the complaints. Those are mine, Not weird.

fricckin' engine whine when you let go of the gas.. brought it to 2 dealers and they both couldn't find the cause.. first they both acknowledge that it was an unusual sound, after that they claimed that the sound was normal... whine is not present when i take of the serpentine belt.. dealer replaced all 3 tensioners and still no dice.. hoping to listen to another 4th gen '06 to see if they have this whine.. anybody here from san diego?...

I had this on my 3rd Gen and it was the AC compressor bearing. The dealer couldn't figure it out, so I had to. The strangest part was it didn't sound like it came from the compressor. Not sure if it's the same thing, but worth throwing out there, just in case.

Only one...the infamous clunk.....other than that, its the best car I have ever had!!! And for those complaining about mpg....my Trailblazer only got 17 on the freeway...crap!

Actually to prevent decapitation, the back window (as well as the driver window and sunroof) has a "auto jam" feature where when its closing, if it senses something stuck in the window it stops rolling up.

LOL...well it's not rocket science, just put your dome light switch to the AUTO (or DOOR I forget what its called) position. It explains that in your owner's manual.

As for my gripes with the 4th gen. The only thing that pisses me off is the V8 manifold tick that Toyota didn't address and the lack of aftermarket support. It didn't piss me off at first but now my otherwise perfect truck sounds like an old tractor when I first start it up. Other than that...Well done Toyota!

And as for the rear window thing, I've heard of someone doing a mod where you can put the window up with the key FOB, I can't be bothered to do it in the freezing cold but I'm planning on it this summer.

Yep, there's a mod for the rear window to allow the fob to be used.

No quick disconnect for the 2nd row lower seats. Long legs and 2nd row folded for hauling dont mix. I have to remove the rear seat bottom to get my drivers seat to move farther back.

Dread the risk of getting a bad replacement (night glare, distortion) or poor install (leaks). But I am shopping around for one.

The seats...they suck and are horribly uncomfortable. also the thud. And the rear window up thing...my back key latch is like seized...so i have to get in and turn the key to the on position to roll it up...super annoying. the 1 12v slot is kinda lame but whatever. the 4 speed tranny on my 03...just sucks

Not being able to turn on all interior lights with one switch (usually that feature is built in to the display brightness wheel, getting that 'click' after full bright to turn all lights on)...want to check on my dog in the back and cant get light on.
