Apohl17's Iceberg Build Thread

Awesome! I'll be keeping my eye out for a used HU on ebay, and have to look into the underseat subs some more. RTT is looking good!
Right on. Always feel free to contact me if you are unsure if it's a good deal or a good unit, or not! But thanks mate. Fabbed up some different mounting brackets and utilized four small pieces of 1.25" OD, 1" ID vinyl tube to hopefully improve the clamping and aesthetics of mounting it on my rack. Pics to come later today if it stops snowing!

The RTT is installed and ready to rip this spring as I get ready to adventure hardcore this year.
I wanted to redo the supplied straight bar clamps that come with the Tepui, so I bought some 1" pipe clamps and a 2 foot section of 1.25" OD vinyl tube.
Started out with a layer of hurricane tape for traction and a 4" section of the tube...

Then electrical tape for waterproofing my supports...

Painted, drilled out the holes to 5/16, and threw a layer of shrink wrap on the clamps...

Ready to bolt up nice and tight amon all four corners...

It's been awhile! Just put another 1400 mile, week long trip into the Iceberg. She handled it like a champ! Broke 220k miles, flyfished 6 rivers in Southern MO, averaged 16.5mpg, explored a couple caves, dealt with nights from 25-40 degrees in my RTT like a champ, had my first ever armadillo encounter, met up with my cousin in Kansas City for a brewery tour and visit, crossed 4 rivers, and most importantly, made a few friends camping along the way. It's safe to say I love this setup!

For sure! it'd be a hike but a fun one im sure. We're planning to go back to the alpine loop in CO this summer to meet some texas friends but otherwise we'll be out here exploring the state!

Right on. I'll make it out there at some point this year. Same goes to you man if you get this way in the Midwest!

Been a short bit since I've had to reference the forums here, which is a good and bad thing!

The Iceberg has taken me to over 8 states, I've put 7,000 miles on 'er in less than 6 months without a hitch, and besides guzzling 87 octane, hasn't cost me a dime.

To me, this is all I could ever ask for in an adventure vehicle. #3rdgenforlife

Let it be written than today, 5/30/19, at 222,908 miles, I changed 5.5 qts of Citgo Supergard Semi-Synth Oil, rotated the tires, and replaced a couple interior LED's that fried at -30° this spring.

Keep on keepin on, folks!

Love the build. I look forward to seeing more. I do see how spoiled we are here on the west coast. My 99 has zero rust. Again, love the build.

I'm jealous of all you rust free guys out there... Haha
But I take what I can get-- thanks for the support man!

Day 2 of some regular maintenance :

First order of business-- replace the thermostat. I had bought this a few months ago as my coolant temps were in the 200-210° range all winter... Which isn't quite ideal! I suspected either an OEM thermo or one that had the jiggle valve at 12 o'clock. (for those who don't know, these engines are designed to have it at 6 o'clock, straight down).

So I started by draining the coolant from the radiator.

Next I removed the three bolts holding the thermostat cover, pulled it back, and to my surprise, it wasn't at 12, or 6 - it was at 9!

Pulled it out to also find that it was a 2013 thermo, but definitely not OEM due to build and stamp differences. In this pic, my new OEM is on the bottom:

So I buttoned that all back up, filled up the system with 2+ gallons of Zerex Red, and moved on to the next step- doing a drain and fill on the tranny pan.

This is my second time doing this, so I knew that the drain quantity is almost exactly 4 quarts of ATF- saved me a lot of time!

With both new fluids in I warmed er up, cranked the heat, and took a nice cruise. Came back, topped off the coolant a wee bit, and the Iceberg is styling.

What's next, might you be asking?
...
You'll have to wait and see. [emoji869]

I have a pretty exciting package coming in the mail, something I always thought would be a great addition to my lighting situation - a 38" X6S Slim for the rack!
Big shout out to Billy_R here on the forums for dealing with me. Can't wait to get it and install in the next couple weeks.

I just wanted to post this for my reference, and to see if anyone had similar experiences...

So my mpg's took a real positive swing from averaging 15 daily driving, to now 19, almost 20 mpg after doing the coolant flush and thermos replacement! Is it possible that the system remapped and is feeling much better with the coolant temps at 188-190 degrees instead of 200-210 all the time????

I'd love to get 20 in my rig, will have to do a coolant flush soon and see if I get similar results!

I'm really thinking that it was due to the thermostat jiggle valve being in the wrong location, which was causing high coolant temps, and possibly mapping the engine on a negative way. So, a coolant flush might not solve much, if anything, but a $20 thermo replacement might be the key! Idk though, I haven't heard of anyone having this same experience, so who knows!

Well, I got the wiring done for the bar in between working my two new jobs... I'll have more pictures to come, but for now, just one to show how I utilized the OEM square switch blank for my two rockers, one for the amber floods, and one for the white spots in the bar.... I'm still designing a custom bracket for mounting this bar to m rack-- it's going to take me a wee bit!
Also, who likes my upside down clutch start cancel button?? :loco:
