Day 2 of some regular maintenance :
First order of business-- replace the thermostat. I had bought this a few months ago as my coolant temps were in the 200-210° range all winter... Which isn't quite ideal! I suspected either an OEM thermo or one that had the jiggle valve at 12 o'clock. (for those who don't know, these engines are designed to have it at 6 o'clock, straight down).
So I started by draining the coolant from the radiator.
Next I removed the three bolts holding the thermostat cover, pulled it back, and to my surprise, it wasn't at 12, or 6 - it was at 9!
Pulled it out to also find that it was a 2013 thermo, but definitely not OEM due to build and stamp differences. In this pic, my new OEM is on the bottom:
So I buttoned that all back up, filled up the system with 2+ gallons of Zerex Red, and moved on to the next step- doing a drain and fill on the tranny pan.
This is my second time doing this, so I knew that the drain quantity is almost exactly 4 quarts of ATF- saved me a lot of time!
With both new fluids in I warmed er up, cranked the heat, and took a nice cruise. Came back, topped off the coolant a wee bit, and the Iceberg is styling.
What's next, might you be asking?

You'll have to wait and see. [emoji869]
