Bilstein 6112's Installed!

Looks great!

Sweet looking setup! I just got an 06' sport and i'm thinking about doing a small lift. Looks like your Bilstein setup could be a good starting point for me! Thanks for the post!

Good looking 4Runner Hawk. Did your T12's settle after a couple weeks of them being on your truck? Mine are still quite a bit higher than I would like after a week.

Sorry, haven't been back on the site for sometime.

They haven't settled as much as I thought. I'll likely pull the 3/8" spacer I have up front on both sides, to drop the front and give myself some rake. right now I still sit level front to back.

I installed my 6112s (3rd setting) 2 weeks ago, i put 5100s in the rear with DS 1.5 spacers. i'm waiting for the springs to settle more before taking final measurements. there is some rake, but looks less than stock. there is more than enough clearance for the 265/70 KO2s.

the truck feels great! rides close to, if not better than stock. The ride is smooth and composed at high speeds even on NJ/NY's terrible highways.

Bottom line - very pleased with this set up

Same with my T12's after a month of driving up and back from the mountains. I'm going to swap mine out for OEM FJ springs.

6112 update

Just a quick update on the 6112s. I'm lucky enough to be able to drive my GF's 2008 V8 Limited with XREAS so I can compare the 6112s with her XREAS back to back. My 6112s are set on basically the lowest setting (1.75") and is less "firm" than the XREAS. I'm not talking about road feedback as in how hard the bumps hit because that's all about tires. I'm talking about how the vehicle moves up/down and side to side. Her XREAS feels more firm and mine feels a tad "floaty". This is all subjective so take it with a grain of salt.

I'll crank up the front up a tad more once the winch and sliders go on. However, the 6112s corner rather nicely and relatively flatly which I like. My GF noticed the flatness as well but also mentioned the floaty up/down feedback.

I have yet to go wheeling with this suspension so this is all on road feedback. New Falked Wilpeaks are going on next week then I'll take her wheeling and put the suspension to test on higher speed dune/arroyo type wheeling.

Anyway, just some more data points.

Based on numerous threads I've seen, I'll have to see what else the shop can order. They gave me a quote for Bilstein 5100, 3" lift coil setup. Also, parto f the work will be a set of 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers. A lot of my commute is on choppy, concrete roads, I'd rather not bounce all over the place. Getting motion sick while driving isn't my idea of fun.

Since my last post in this thread, I've been able to beat the absolute piss out of these shocks. My thoughts/reviews are here:

Install:

Just to muddy up the water a little bit, I bought a set of Falken Wildpeak A/T3 and I absolutely love them. I also have the TG on the landcruiser but at $130/each, you can't beat the Falken 265/70/17s.

Hope this helps!

First of all this thread is amazing!!! These look perfect and the stories have me excited.

I'm currently awaiting my first ever attempt at lifting, going in all by my lonesome (might have a spare pair of hands, but no mechanics) and I have to ask: What should I be aware of going in. I'm trying to do a small lift that levels and stabilizes it: 1.5 in the rear, 2.0 in the front.

Here's what I have coming.
5160's
6112's
Sway-A-Way Rear Coils

What else is necessary?

What would be nice to add?

I'm willing to listen to advice. I love the way these look and the stories of the superior ride has me excited. My XREAS is dead, has been for months, but I almost rolled over on the highway going around a curve, my front left just decided it didn't feel like it anymore, so I got to my destination and bought these same day.

Nothing is installed yet, if there's something I need or need to change though, I gotta do/get it asap. I'm away from home and need a safe ride home.

EDIT: And what measurements or pics are good to share for before and after??? :D

Anyone who might gain some info

This directed at me or the previous? Thanks

I was wondering if you could post what lift settings you used when you assembled the coilovers and post your hub to fender measurement once you have the 6112s installed?

Im planning on doing the same front lift using 6112s but want to get as close to my current front lift as possible so the settings and measurements would really help as a baseline. Thanks

Will do. I'll add it to the list and measure when I get it in the garage.

After reading through the instructions, it seems they were all written with the v6 in mind. Anyone think the v8 will be significantly enough different to warrant a higher clip? I think it will matter, but a clip movement is probably too much compensation, especially since I"m not trying to max it out.

I have a V6. I was running 5100's in the rear with FJ springs. I initially set my 6112's at the 3/5 setting (I think) but it was not high enough. I now have them at the highest setting (4/6?) and they're perfect. (I have since replaced the 5100's with Icon 2.0 w reservoirs which made zero difference in height but a better ride in the back.)

I went ahead and got sway a ways, I read on here they give approximately 1.5" settled. I'm hoping that and just over 2" in the front make it as level as I can get it. Obviously nothing is ever the same. I'm probably after reading doing a 3/5 split. If you had yours needed more on FJ springs, mine will need the full 2"... I hope it looks right when I'm done, I am NOT looking forward to pulling them off and re-compressing the spring.

I wouldn't have to remove them though, they'd just need squished. Hmm.

Gorgeous Truck BTW. Mine is... Eh... Well. He has a lovely personality.

Well... took the wheel off today to see what I was getting into and I'm already kinda regretting it. Looks like my sway bar stabilizers and my outer cv boots are all destroyed, the looks of my rotors once I got them off, I have at least one seized piston and I didn't even get to the rear. So I didn't start on anything I couldn't finish while I'm out of town. This will be a big (expensive) project...

Did you move the c-clips yourself?

Just paid someone to install the 6112s using the 4/2 settings for 2"s and its too low, so now id like to move them to the 3/5 position.

Does the strut need to disassembled and then reassembled to move the c-clips?

Sadly, yes it does.
