Borla xr-1 or magnaflow......opinions please

Im currently looking at both of these options. The borla is part number 40942 I believe which is right around $130 or so but I don't think it has the correct offset for the piping that we have. At least that's what summit's website says. The magnaflow is part number 11225 which has the correct offset and is only $65.


So for those of you with these two mufflers.........which is the favorite amongst members? Is the borla worth double the cost?

I've been researching the same thing. I think Borla would be good if we had a high flowing exhaust, or a cat back system. Since I don't, I'm going with Magnaflow. It'll work just as good I would assume, and I've seen the 18" ones on Amazon for $45 ish...

I may be wrong, and if I am, feel free to correct me, but I don't see Borla as worth the extra cost.

Cat back exhaust are just as efficient as a performance upgrade as they are a paper weight most of the time. I have ran the Borla XR1 on several vehicles, you must be talking about the oval XR1.

I have only run the round ones, in original and multi core versions. They are beautiful, high quality mufflers and are among the top 10 best flowing mufflers (per bench testing) on the market. That being said they are a glorified glass pack by design.

With the Borla you are getting a higher quality steel and the Borla name. Is it worth it to you?

I've looked at that thread too. Coupled with liny's sound clips he has on YouTube, even though it's the smaller muffler, is what made me want the xr-1. However, the mangaflow just looks like a really good option for $65

Absolutely

Clearance over stock has improved drastically

I realize COB had a bad experience, but for his one bad example I've found 100s of good reviews for them. Not saying he didn't go through sh*t, but that's not necessarily what will happen with everyone else.

Don't get me wrong, the Borla is nice, but its hard to justify double the money for something that does the same exact thing.

I just can't believe 3 shop installed stainless steel magnaflow mufflers all died within one year of the original purchase. 2WD Auto, not even supercharged, with barely any off-road use. All turned into rattling pieces of junk.

Yet, my clamped on/baling wire hung Jardine has been great since February without a single issue? Supercharged (more heat) and 4WD wheeling trips including King of Hammers? The way I floor it everywhere with this manual trans?

Sure as hell wasn't me or my truck causing those Magnablows to break. Sounds like ****ty quality. You can buy one all you'd like, but if it breaks, can't say I didn't warn you.

Hundreds of other reviews or not, I drive a 3rd gen just like all of you. Chances are, your muffler will look the same as mine (my 3) did.
