Calling all Toyota employees, help take down fake part distributors!

I just bought this Toyota 3 4 V6 Aisin TKT 005 Complete 16 Pcs Timing Belt Pump Kit | eBay This to me was the best deal on Ebay.

I received two different "colored" camshaft seals. One was NKO one was THO. The THO was the brown style that was in the truck. I emailed the seller and almost immediately received a response. Here is the sellers response:

"Both seals are OEM. You must have received one that was from NOK and the other from THO. Both brands are OEM brands that Toyota use for their seals. So you just received one from each brand. But both are original."

I have no problem with this. All the parts looked OEM to me. Installed all the parts about a month ago. No leaks. No issues at all. The price was fantastic. I put all the same parts in a cart from Camelback and it was going to be around $500.

So you installed ALL of the parts in the above kit including both the NOK and THO? Might be a noob question but I have no idea if 1 or 2 are needed and if they gave you a choice between which one to install lol

Believe it or not, a lot of "oem toyota" parts from the dealer are manufactured by different companies and just branded "toyota" or "honda". I work at a honda dealership and have lots of family in the auto business including Indy shop and brother as master tech at toyota dealer and I spoke to the district honda rep why certain parts say mitsuboshi or etc and are bagged in oem honda bags with honda part numbers? It's so they can mark it up and claim that only oem parts from dealer are to be trusted "funny that same parts we sometimes get straight from manufacturing ie. worldpac for a ton cheaper. Just my two cents, just because it doesn't say toyota specifically does not mean much to me.

The engine has 2 camshafts thus 2 camshaft seals.

I watch my parts VERY close and out of the last 40-50 or so I have received authentic items. But tonight I got bit in the ass. Thank goodness I know parts...

Purchased a FBT-004 Fan idler for my 02 3rd gen from the ebay. Taking this one to the moon and back as this is killing my engine work for a week in which I took a day off extra to complete.

Seller claims authentic aisin and they have a direct aisin rep - but will not give me his name!
- Received idler in a generic plastic baggy marked "replaces OEM 16307-62011"
- Aisin logo not even attempted to be faked properly! Looks like whiteout with a stamp
- Metal feels like it was made from recycled tinfoil and beer cans
- Lots of gouges, scratches and such on the part

About the only decent part of the unit was the bearing is stamped koyo but that is probably a fake too HAA!

Ah well, took a gamble at almost $55 less than the price of a real aisin. At least ebay should enforce its policy on the return as I filed as a counterfeit item / requested a return and also emailed Aisin with photos.

I am with ya man - DOWN WITH THE COUNTERFEIT CAR PART SELLERS!

I received a call from Aisin which confirmed the above is in fact counterfeit / at least they have NEVER used a sloppy white paint logo on anything they have ever made according to a gentleman named Brad.

Aisin was totally awesome about it - sent me a brand new replacement and requested the counterfeit item be shipped to them. Ebay seller wanted it back but they are not getting it / likely they will be contacted by some legal department at Aisin.

It is possible they have no idea they are selling a counterfeit item and are totally innocent... which sucks for them... but the fact is they never denied it was counterfeit when I told them it was, just apologized for the quality issue and requested the part be returned. :lie: :clap2:

I am concerned about the authenticity of an Aisin FBT-004 I recently purchased. Do you have any pictures of the genuine part that Aisin sent you?

^^Actually I normally go to the dealer despite the extra cash, but being in Hawaii, sometimes things take a while to get in. I tried to get the crankshaft pulley bolt and a lot of other things for my V8, but they had to order it and it would take a few weeks since I was told it was backordered. Wanting to do the timing belts soon, I didn't want to wait. Then when I saw OEM kits online, it seemed to make life a whole lot easier. It just happened to be for sale on eBay. No more waiting in line at the cashier, 2 day shipping available, I could just get the whole shebang and be done, that's actually why honestly I went that route.

I've ordered things on back order before that came in the next business day with the rest of my order from my local dealership.

Not saying that's the norm, but it may not be all that terrible to wait for backorder parts sometimes.

Learned my lesson years ago on FLEA BAY!! Nope..never again...I don't mind paying a little more to get anything from an actual dealer. Even the Discount Tires deal...I could have bought from store for only a few dollars more and received all the warranty, road side, replacement...not available off Flea Bay.

To each their own but no more Flea Bay for me.
