Thanks guys! Here's today's progress.

Started off by swapping the original R150F 5VZ-FE bell housing with that of a 2TR-FE bell housing for the R155 transmission that Toyota uses in the 2005+ 2.7l Tacoma.

The transmission with the 5VZ bell housing.

2TR-FE R155 Bell housing on the right, about 6 1/2" tall.

R155 clutch fork matched the R150 clutch fork exactly. New Koyo throwout bearing.

The cover was so stuck on with rust that removal meant destruction via air hammer.

Performed a spin test on the Maine front diff to double check the gear ratio. 4.56 is correct. The ADD vacuum controls work as well.

By this point, the donor truck is looking pretty sad. This thing will never be driven ever again. It's sad to have to take a Toyota off the road, but in turn, my Toyota will also be going off the road :D Over and over again.

The 2WD hubs are not splined for the CV axle, which required swapping to the 4WD spindles.

My 4Runner doesn't have ABS, thus the 2WD spindles don't have ABS sensors. The 4WD spindles have sensors, so removing them simply wasn't an option unless there was something to fill the hole. The best route was to cut the wire for the ABS speed sensor and leave it in.

This is John, the owner of the shop, cutting the shields off of the 4WD spindles.

After removal of the transmission/flexplate inspection cover, some leakage was evident from the oil pan gasket. A while back, before meeting John, another shop had installed a cork gasket that shouldn't be there. The seeping is slow, so I only sinched the bolts a touch tighter and left it be.

This was a real pain to get in, it's a very tight squeeze. One of the tricks that John learned over his course of experience - grinding off a few threads from the bottom stud makes that a way easier job.

Reinstalled spindles, rotors, calipers, and wheels with 2WD spindles on the donor truck, so it'll roll.

The old CV's have bad seals against the hub, so to avoid risking water damage to the front wheel bearings, new ones are on order.

Shop is packed up for night and we'll be back tomorrow!

wow. EPIC ****ing build man, to the point of a restoration even almost. im sure this runner will still be on the road in another 15 years. great work, lots of inspiration here, thanks!

I wanted to say your donor vehicle is in great shape. I can't believe someone let it go with that little of damage. You could have probably restored it yourself with a little cutting and welding for fairly cheap! Best part about it is that it's a five speed....well, was.

frame is bent so i dont think its worth fixin

funny thing is... the frame is straight.

The core support is bent. On top of the accident, the body had some rust spots, a destroyed interior, a bad clutch, a broken sway bar endlink (rust), a broken shock, multiple leaks, salvage title and 170k...

I didn't wanna waste my time... haha
