That looks really good man! Coming along nicely. I completely agree with you on not getting the swing away- although it looks sweet and is handy, I feel like it's too much in the way and adds more weight so good choice!

I like the double recovery hooks on your bumper - the red makes them pop are you going to paint them or leave them red? I wonder if I can hook some up on my stock bumper?
Are your mirrors black or green? Having the tire on the hood would be different - never seen that on a Runner, I guess the Rovers are better able to handle that with their "box" tall windshield and shorter hood. How would the spare look on top of the Runner? I guess you don't want to add any more weight with a roof rack though....

My mirrors were black when I bought the 4Runner, but I changed them out with green 00+ style mirrors, as well as the door handles. John's just kidding around
I tried the spare on top... first of all, it's a huge pain in the ass to get up there, and second, I've heard too many negatives about increase in center of gravity. I also don't want to worry about clearance... so ultimately, the rear swing out is probably one of the best choices, but I don't like it.
The shackles I had powder coated red, so they'll be staying that way. I like it. If you want a way to get some on your truck, look here. These fit on both front and back. I have them on the front of mine.

You can use it if you deflate the tire, I have a little air pump onboard but I just never liked the spare location anyway. It looks like crap and interferes offroad too much.
Here's what I figured. I have AAA Plus, so I get 100 free miles of towing a year. If I had a flat on the road, it wont be farther than 30 miles at most. I'll get a tow if I have to (haven't had one flat with my BFG's yet).
On offroad trips and long road trips, I can just put the spare in the back or on the roof, like driffter33.
With a 4 cylinder, you can really feel the extra weight of the spare, it's actually kinda scary.
I could always get a hitch mounted rear tire carrier for trips, as well...

I am getting annoyed with it too. The angle is off... so when the back window is down, I can really get a lot of exhaust smell. I gotta see what I can do.

I don't smell it and you can't really see it unless you're under the truck..

I did think of that... but I don't know, I like the exhaust pipe showing... I would hate to waste the money I paid for the tip by just cutting it off. I am all for re-angling it, though.

I just went outside and took a few pics, it appears that the exhaust is about as high as it can get without completely eliminating it.
The exhaust cutout option was cool on the CBI, but brian mentioned it would require cutting the body.
Looks like the exhaust is staying put.

It didn't make mine any louder, it's still post muffler.
You'd have to do a turn down exhaust (tailpipe angle at the ground) so it doesn't blow straight on your axle and heat it up. This could be bad for fumes and it could blow dirt and dust up if your sitting there idling. I hacked mine where I did because it still has just enough of a curve to blow it out the side and the back. I've never smelled it inside the truck unless I have the rear window all the way open and I'm parked for a while.

i was thinking having the exhaust pipe sticking out under the pass door and in front of the tire kinda like gohidetheasian's old runner

Hah that's cool and all, but I've got sliders there. The routing process would be redundant and most likely costly.
I guess if I end up going this route, I will have to do this. It's cool to do on a dedicated trail rig like yours. If anything, I was thinking of getting a longer tip and angle the pipe just a bit more up so the exhaust sits high up and far enough to the side.

Now that my engine's rebuilt and the Honda is sold, the 4runner is back out retirement and my DD again. Another option is to do what Proudrunner did and have someone make your tailpipe go over the frame and angle downwards (right behind the bumper). Kinda hard to explain, but see if you can have Proud take a pic of his exhaust for you.
