I'm still a maybe actually, planning on leaving NC that Thursday or Friday, originally was just going to take my time cruising back to CO but depending on a couple things I might detour up.

Fry day bump!!!!

On the upside, got some maintenence done on the 3rd gen that I am brining on this camping trip. I am stoked!! In a week or two when I get the new body mounts I will be putting a addition 1 1/2" body lift. Its just too bad my 5th gen won't coming.

I have a question for the peoples who have made this trip previously.

What are the laws in regards to me transporting enough guns and ammo to arm a large militia into Virgina?

Anything specific I should know, aside from the common sense don't drink and play with guns. Its sad you have to say that to some people.

don't get pulled over first of all........

second, my best answer as I don't fully know, is make sure everything is locked up, keep the ammo in a separate part of the truck. that's pretty much the only hassle free way I know of. Virginia is a open carry state, and I don't remember if we accept NC CCW permits

Not from NC, just live here? In Alaska we don't have CCW, well we do, but my residency counts as my CCW. I will do that, just keep them separate, locked up and away from the booze. Man, I feel like a traveling problem lol.

As long as the weapons are not illegal to possess or operate on the state in which you are visiting you are good. The only thing is if your transporting large amounts of ammunition or explosives you have to placard your vehicle as such. Ammo is anything 10k pounds or above o believe. Just make sure of you bring full autos/SBRs/silencers you check if the state allows them and if so file the transportation requests with the ATF.



On a side note... I cannot attend this year :( I am currently working in NYC and won't be back till the 8th. Then I have a pregnant significant other I must show love and affection to because a week after I get back o am leaving again for more work in Texas :(


Maybe next year :) I really wanted to go but this was an opportunity o couldn't miss out on (and didn't have a choice in Lol).
 
I was also going to mention the ATF transportation request. Just to piggyback, that's for any NFA weapon. [MENTION=126544]kapp_badbloodz[/MENTION] mentioned the most common ones. I doubt too many people have claymores or grenades, but you never know. I believe prior authorization is not needed to transport a silencer, but it is recommended and I would double check. Authorization is needed for anything else though. I'd get those requests in soon since the govt. is slow and may be shut down in a few days.

Correct. Any registered NFA item sans silencers need to have a request form authorized by the ATF. Silencers are only recommended so I never do them. I only contact ATF if I move or if any of my items are damaged and need to be permanently destroyed.

So if you have a SBR or SBS make sure you get that request in super early. They say at least 30 days but I would try 2 months.
