"Budget" XREAS replacement with a little bit of lift?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2008 FJC Coils, new, all 4 from Rock Auto = $86.00
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bilstein 5100 Series, front (lift adjustable) and back = $$407 (fixed)
https://www.suspensionconnection.co...tein-5100-shocks&vqt_4x4-or-2wd=4-wheel-drive
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Going from everything I've read here that should give me about 2" of lift in the front and a negligible amount in the rear, correct? A lot cheaper than an OME kit even if I decide to do new strut mount plates and hardware.

Does that all sound right? I have nearly new, stock sized General Grabber at2's and wouldn't be upsizing the tire anyway. I just need to replace my tired XREAS and gain a bit of clearance at the nose.

Will I need a spacer, too? Thoughts?

This is the exact set-up I just ordered, still waiting on the Coils from Rock Auto. I got the KYB mount set as well. I didn't order spacers thinking the coils would give me the lift I want in the rear. Just need to get it installed now, quoted $400 for coils/shocks total is that reasonable?

Hey 4th Gen'rs, Do you know if the FJ Cruiser TRD coil and shocks will work on a 3rd Gen? Have not heard from them if it will or not.

I've done quite alot of research on lifting my rig but I cannot really pick what I want to do.. But one things for sure. Bilsteins 5100's struts. As for springs, I can't decide; moogs for the t4r and fjc or stock spring (but not really liking this option).... I'm leaning towards the moog fjc springs since it's already a good lift and I can adjust it in the front with the bilsteins but...

The only things keeping me back from the both moogs is that I keep reading that they don't fit well on the spring perch on the rear axle so I'm worried it'll pop out while in use. Something noone would desire, or have a liking for.

That said..

Has moog recently fix this problem? Most posts I come across are about 2 or more years old, and I'm just hoping that moog has fixed this in the recent years. Does anyone know?

Does this issue affect both the moog fjc and t4r springs? or just the fjc ones?

Thanks

I went the Moog FJ / 5100 route for a cost-effective lift and can confirm the rear springs are not fun to get seated on the perches. That said, there's no possible way for them to 'pop out' as you mentioned. Once in place they're not going anywhere.

You may need a couple pry bars to loosen the coil to seat it, and a good mallet and sledge. To me it was worth the extra effort to save the $$$ going with Moog springs.

Wheelers Off-road has the T12 Eibach rears on sale for 159.00 right now, 2 inch lift, with the front Moog FJ's would be nice.

Really? It seems at full droop/articulation, it could just pop out with ease... Maybe it's just me. Could you grab a picture of how they sit?

Yea, the cost is one BIG reason why i'm still leaning towards the moogs. haha

Any difference among springs?

Can someone advise or direct me accordingly.

I'm trying to find out if there are any differences among the stock FJ springs between years and models. For example are the pre 2010 taller, stiffer etc... and is there any difference between regular 4x4 springs, TRD or Trail etc...

I have heard that they are all the same in regards to the height and capacity of the coils. I have also, been told that the TRD springs have a higher capacity. Can anyone confirm this for me. I greatly appreciate any info, thanks in advance.

Got mine installed yesterday by a local shop. I went with the FJC (4WD) Moog coils and Bilstein 5100's, $447 for the coils and springs. The shop set the front at 2.5".

Will 2010 rear FJ TT springs fit a 4th gen? Seems like consensus is that they will not fit, however I saw one thread where someone was saying its just the shocks that wont fit (but the 5th gen springs will fit)....im skeptical.

Noob Advice....

Needing a little guidance here. First vehicle I've wanted to lift. This thread seems like something that would fit what I'm looking for. I am not familiar with brands and reputations. Maybe you guys can help.

2006 Toyota Sport Edition. Therefore xreas suspension. 125k miles.

1. Not looking to do any rock crawling. But I do get out and go hunting. So being able to get over and through some gnarly dirt roads would be great.
2. I plan on keeping OEM Sport ed wheels so I don't want to do a fat lift and the skipping leg day look. So 1.5-2" lift would be ideal I imagine.
3. In the future I may get an aftermarket front bumper. Therefore added the added weight.
4. Not a huge fan of the back sitting up higher than the front.
5. Are there other good 5th gen, newer Tacoma, newer FJ OEM setups that I could find used for a good price locally or just 07-09 FJ?

Really appreciate your guys thoughts/opinions. Thanks in advance.

Read the forum 4th Gen Suspension. Many people on there tend to leave comments and questions about suspension related upgrades and issues. You will find there are alit of different setups to accomplish different things and you will become more familiar with them as you read along and pick up on the T4R jargon.
There is a forum that hopefully you should have read by now that explains this all.

You've posted your question in a 4th gen forum so I'm assuming you already know your model vehicle.
Have fun with your research!

Like other poster said, there's treads for each of the options you listed. Problem is they are so huge, be ready to spend a day reading and dissecting all the information.

I recently installed 14 FJ Off-Road Bils and coils on my 07 SE. Too good of a price on CL to pass up. Requires grinding down a bit on the lower strut eyelet (fronts) and widening of the upper chassis mount (rear).

I hear the same is for 5th gen swap, but do confirm that.

TRD Taco's will fit too and provide a little more lift. Eyelet on the rear shock needs to be swapped out to a bigger ID bushing. Taco's run rear leaf spring(?), so no coil.

All the info can be found/confirmed in their respective thread.

Hmm, that's odd, because with my '06 V8, the front 5100 at 0.85 and Moog FJ
springs all around, running board is only 1/4" lower in the rear than front.
Now if I wanted to equalize the wheel gap (between top of tire and fender)
then I'd have to raise the front another full inch, but that definitely would
create a reverse rake at the running board (and almost everywhere else).

[edit]Oh, I did fix the bottom of the rear springs so they would seat properly. Before
that, the rear was at least 1/2 higher, but over large bumps or flexed out, the rear made
horrible noises. Something to keep in mind when comparing ride heights and rake.

Overall after about two weeks installed I feel like the suspension has
become a little bit more compliant. For first week or so it was fine on big or
continuous high frequency stuff (bumpy gravel road), but stuff like expansion joints
on the highway were pretty unpleasant. That seems to be getting
better. But it's got a new issue that it didn't start with. The front
left coilover (maybe right too, but I can't hear it from driver's seat)
is creaking softly every time it starts to move even a tiny bit, so I hear
it while initiating or ending a turn, accelerating, decelerating..
creak.. creak..
Please tell me there's an easy fix for this.
I had this exact problem recently. Exactly same front setup as you. What fixed it for me was tightening down the centre nut at the top of the front 5100's. I'm sure you know how much of a pain it is to do on this vehicle. I tightened to the point where it just wouldn't turn anymore. Next drive all sounds gone from the suspension. You got to make sure that rubber bushing under that nut is squished down good.

All that info is definitely out there and only slightly confusing. All good think I'm narrowing it down to adjustable bilstein 5100 and then standard rears. Not sure which springs yet. Don't want to use any spacers.

looking for 4 bilsteins..

the springs I'm torn on... why does everyone use a rear spacer? why not just put in a 2 inch rear lift springs? is that not a feasible option?

if I was to go with 2inch lift springs.. what is my front option? do i get fj springs and set the struts at 2.5 inches on the top perch or 1.75 inches on the 2nd to the top perch?

Im ok with a slight front rake.. just not reverse rake.. wanted to go 265/70/17 KO2s with this set up...

any thoughts or help would be appreciated..

Master plan

Your thoughts please. 2006 v6 sport edition.

My plan is to go bilsteins 5100 around. OEM FJ coils in the back. No spacer. Then in the front go with OME 885 and the bilsteins set to 0. Any professional opinions what the rake/level will be like? Ride quality? Aftermarket UCAs or anything else needed?

I found 5100 fronts for $92 ea and rears for $72 ea. Good price?
