Daystar or Cornfed?

Okay, I'm sure this has been posted before, but I didn't really find much info about it.
So I've finally decided to bite the bullet and get a spacer lift. I've been looking at the Daystar 3/2 but I'm also wondering about the Cornfed. Any recommendations pro or con on either? I don't really have a preference, so any info would be appreciated.

Go for the cornfed, I have loved mine. The new daystar kit is not a topout/preload spacer combo, but just one large topout spacer.

Conveniently, I am selling my Cornfed/FJ Spring lift kit :D. If you are interested let me know

Is there an issue with it being one large topout spacer rather than the previous combination?
 
Here is what is on J.A.'s website, top4runners.com

"The thing that you should note is that Daystar's Comfort Ride Suspension Lift Kit part #KT09115BK has been changed significantly and is now an "Easy Install" Kit. What that means is that there is no preload spacer and the topout spacer is larger to accomplish the same 2.5" lift. The ride quality will remain virtually unchanged from factory as there is no preloading of the coil spring. And the overall installation is therefore easier as you do not need to compress the coil and remove the top plate. Stud extensions are included rather than simply longer studs which again would require the compression and opening of the coil pack. I am sure this marketing strategy will attract more buyers, but if this was the way they made them when I made my decision to purchase I would have decided differently. I prefer having some preload, while minimal to reduce ride harshness, but still enough to reduce the topout size some and the potential for overextension of the suspension system. While the original (preload and topout style) DS #KT09115BK has been oficially discontinued by Daystar, DS will specially make the discontinued old style kit for retailers on a one off basis that place a special order for them in bulk. Wheeler's Offroad in Oregon, at least for now, says they are comitted to selling both the new and old stlye DS kits. "

Now what are you going to do ?

Do you know if the 2/1 CF kit is a topout and preload combo or just a topout ? I think you had one If I remember correctly ?

I am not 100% yet, but it should be an awesome setup. Give me another week or so to pin down the details and I will let you know :D

And for the 2/1, t is also topout and preload, IIRC the topout is the same in both, the only different is the 3/2 has a larger (metal not polyurethane) preload spacer than the 2/1

Just want to let you all know we are expaning the Cornfed operation and should be able to get the lift kits out much quicker in the future. While I can sell ANY KIT, I still think the Cornfed is one of the best, and built by guys that have owned 4Runner since the beginning.

You can't use the Toytec with XREAS, right?
 
Okay, so hopefully this will be my last question about this.
I'm having some trouble finding anyone to install the Cornfed, but the one shop I found will install the Daystar. Does anyone know if the actual height is the same for both of these lifts, or is the does the Cornfed give you 1/2 an inch more?
 
The old style DS give 1/2" more than advertised up front for a net lift of 3", new style DS give the quoted 2.5". Old style is still available from Wheelers. Check w/ Jason on the CF but I believe it gives a straight 2/1 or 3/2 depending on which kit you go with.
 
I am considering the Cornfed 1" leveling kit.
EZ install? Is there any mods to the suspension or brake lines?

What about material ???

How durable is the DS poly ?? Yes it will not rust , but will squish down as time goes on (i would guess) and you would have to keep an eye on the torque of the nuts .

Also having the poly in the rear , if you frequently have a trailer or loaded , would that have an effect on the Poly DS uses or the plastic that CF uses in the rear.

Do you really think the DS kit takes away the vibration over a aluminum type like a CF ?? Since DS claims "Comfort ride" over others would mean the spacers have to give a little . Will that eventually break down the stiffness of the poly spacer , (I would guess) but don't know

We always talk about which is better whether it be lifts , v6/v8 , tires , ect..... But lets hear you thoughts on material and durability of these kit's .

I'm not sure what CF uses in back , I just guessed from a photo I saw it was some type of plastic.

Thoughts ?????
 
I've got the daystar front topout 2.5 kit and its great, no overextension, smooth and quiet. Absolutly NO change in ride comfort.
 
No I am more talking about material strength ect...

re: this weekend I had to pull one of my loaders , a lot of tongue weight , had the back dropped a few inches. It was not for long drive , but had to do it. What would that do to a rear spacer like the DS poly one or plastic , I'm sure alum would be ok.

The alum doesn't change the ride in the front. Plain and simple Competitors use Urethane and Polyurethane because it's cheap to make, and it's much less expensive than alum (what cornfed uses on the front) or UHMW (what cornfed uses on the rear). Polyurethane can compress over time with the weight, and you can eventually lose some of your lift.

The FRONT of the Cornfed kit has alum, which will never compress, ever.

The REAR of the cornfed kit has UHMW.

Because of the weight distribution and suspension design on the
4Runner UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) is an ideal alternative to Aluminum and the UHMW used is actually the same material used by Toyota in the bumpstop assembly at the top of the rear coil assembly. This is where we first considered using this as a solution for this application. It acts very similarly to metal in that it has virtually no compression and will no doubt outlast your truck. Other companies use urethane and polyurethane, which can and WILL shirnk over time. If you are wondering why the rear isn't made of alum, well this is an easy answer. The rear spacers are HUGE and would take 4 times longer to machine out of aluminum than the UHMW. So, we use UHMW because it's as strong as aluminum and half the time to machine it.

This may make the Cornfed kit more expensive than some, but you are getting the best materials that won't ever compress and a proven setup that has been desiged and tested by owners of 4Runner's and tweaked to perfection.
