how do you turn the drls on if u go from non drl to drl with the 30 part?

They're on whenever your headlights are off. They're off whenever your headlights are on.

hey bud, i got a question. how much did the dealer charge you for the headlight change? and i there a way to change the way we unlock our 4runners? instead of clicking the remote twice to unlock all doors can we just click the remote once? let em know man. late.

You could push the unlock button and open all doors instead of pushing it twice to open all doors. To have that programmed, you have to take it to the dealer because they need to plug a computer into your truck. Some dealers charge to have this done.

OK, installed the new flasher today. Looks good. Thanks to every one here for the homework you saved me by doing this first.

Now, here is what I want to do:
I want my existing parking lamps and my DRL/Flasher lamps to work together. I want both sets to be controlled by the parking lamp switch on the stalk and both sets to flash as blinkers.

Why? Beacause that's the way I want it...

I am thinking that I need to wire them both from the DRL/Flasher assembly and replace the ecu input to the DRL assembly with power from the parking lamp switch on the stalk. Does that sound right?

Also, becuase I wired my fog lamps to be able to be switched on only when the parking lamps are active, how do I wire these so that they do not flash with my flashers. Do I need to provide power to that relay directly from the stalk before it enters to Flasher circuit?

I am starting to put this together in my head, but it is starting to confuse me. I took only one year of basic electronics and that was over 6 years ago.

Rando or anybody else, any help would be appreciated..

Thanks

that's going to be rough because of the fact that your fogs are drawing power from your parking lamps. when you find out, ler me know because i blew a couple of fuses trying. late.

It seems to me that the worse case scenario would be to pull my ON voltage from a different source. I think everything else will work, but I haven't looked at a wiring diagram yet.

Yes it comes complete. When you receive it, all you get is the DRL flasher. Its the big black box on the left. To the right is the Non DRL Flasher and the wiring harness that goes with it.

If you want the DRL flasher you have to remove the smaller beige NON DRL Flasher and wiring harness and plug the DRL flasher into its place.

I started this thread almost 2 years ago and finally got around to doing it. Thanks for all your help!!!!

DRL Equipped :)
I've had that damn part for it must be a year now and still haven't done it. I think it is because I didn't have a visual......and now I do thanks to your picture. So, it is about damn time that I get in there and set this up. I would have perferred to wire it to a switch, but I don't think I have the skills to tackle that. I know someone did it.....was it save? ......and simple?

T4R friends!
Thanks to all for the great info! Specially, Rando.

I received my DRL flasher, the Auto light sensor (on dashboard) and switch (steering wheel column) from partznet.com and did the two rigs this afternoon.

Now I'm a happy camper! Have DRL and lights will go on when is dark outside and off when is bright. No need to mess with the light switch anymore, just put it on Auto that's it.

I used to have those features in my 02 Lexus IS300 and when I bougth the 05 T4R SE and noticed didn't have it, I couldn't believe it!

The DRL flasher was a piece of cake. To run a three prong wire from the light sensor to the plug was a bit complicated, but got it resolved with an old CD-ROM audio cable (Like Rando said). I used the same gauge wire though. To change the gauge to 14 or 16 would be a better idea.

Next, change the crappy JBL synthesis system. HU, speakers, amp, everything!

Happy New Year!

According to partznet, the DRL system includes a different flasher relay ($31.65 at partznet). According to the shop manul there is also a light sensor mounted at the top of the dash ($105.55 at partznet also used for the auto on/off head lamps). It's unclear if a non DRL equipped system has the programming in the ECU to support DRL and/or if the harness connector for the sensor is in the dash.

my 98 corolla has this on the dash:D

i have an 06 SE 4runner. and i have the drls already but i want auto headlights. do i use the same flasher or another one? or what am i looking at to do this?

Very nice install guide. I would have been clueless had it not been for the nice instructions on this post. Did the mod very quickly, now it's time to call the insurance company!!!

:awais:

Does anyone know, which 4Runners would most likely have the DRL box in it already (aside the LTDs) but not turned on. I read somewhere that some 4Runners have the box already, but all it needs is the dealer to activate it. Does anyone know which trim line (SR5, SE, or both) have the box ready, and just needs to be activated. thanks in advance. I don't want to buy the DRL thing if it's already in there and so that I don't need to pay for an extra hour or two at the dealership to check it, and then install it. thanks:)

I have a 2006 limited and would like to turn the DRLs on. I've seen it mentioned on the forum that the limiteds might have the module or relay or whatever it is already installed, but not activated. Anyone know how to 1) verify that it is installed and 2) if so, how to turn it on?

Thanks,
David
