If i remember correctly, it is a UT-692NB/0603 SMD LED. 1.60mm x 0.80mm x 0.40mm.

I did my HVAC controls, rear window and 4x4 switch this weekend. I did the arrows for High and Auto in Red and the AC in blue. The rest of the arrows are white. I also did red for the rear defrost and recirc buttons. If you look close, you can see I did the air bag ON light in blue. I am going to do the guage cluster next using blue LED's as well as the glove box, cup holders and door lights. If you do this mod, I highly reccomend doing the hvac led's first. The first few led's were tough since I haven't soldered in a while. By the time I got to the 3rd or 4th LED it got alot easier. The hardest part for me was getting the old LED's out.
This all started when the 05 4runner sport I just bought had some lights out in the LCD. I am so glad I found this thread and am very happy with the results. I will post more pics as I get more done. BTW the pics are no where close to what it actually looks like in person. It looks much better than the pics show.

I just tried to do this and im having a problem - they dont work. I did the arrows for the right hvac knob - how did you go about it? i just desoldered the old leds and put in new 5mm leds and now none work.. i tested it when one was in and it worked fine, one blue light, 4 orange lgiths. now none work, i tested all the leds and all are put in the right way.

For what it's worth, you are supposed to use 3mm LEDs, not 5.
Now does the right knob function? Will it change to feet and face or windshield defrost? Maybe you didn't plug the ribbon cable in properly? That's all I can think of at this point. That or you burnt the board out. I have a spare

Yeah, the buttons work fine. I PM'd you a pic fwiw. How would I have burned out the board? Could the 5mm LEDs require too much voltage or something?

I used 3mm but I would think 5mm should work also. I recommend using the 3mm instead of the 5mm because even with the 3mm it is really bright.
What I did was use a 9volt battery with a couple wires taped to the positive and negative terminals. I then soldered a 50 ohm resister to the positive wire and tested each LED before installing.
If you look at the top of the circuit board you will see a symbol for the LED that looks like a triangle. Make sure the negative leg of the led is in the hole where the pointed part of the triangle is facing. The flat side of the triangle is positive. You can tell which is positive and negative on the led by looking at the legs and the longer one is positive.
I also tested the LED's after they were soldered in the board with the 9volt battery
Also check your fuses.

There is an led under the ignition ring. If you pull off the lower dash, you will see it. I had some black tape I had to pull off to see it. Be careful as there is some very thin wire going around the ring where the key goes. I am going to do mine once I figure out how to get to the led.

I always think "positive goes to negative", so the arrow points to the negative. Yay directions!

Make sure your dimmer switch is plugged in, or none of the lights will light up

@ John - first off, welcome to the forums
I did that process, verbatim. What kind of solder ddi you use? I just used rosin core electrical solder with no flux or anything.
Maybe my iron was too hot and f'ed something up? I used a cordless iron that i just had laying around
The dimmer is plugged in, all fuses are good, it's JUST the arrows on that one knob. I'm baffled because the knob still functions, it's JUST the leds that I worked on.

WOW.
So, i did the rest of the HVAC last night. I only had 5mm LEDs and I had a ton of free time and little patience. so here was my process:
Sand down the 5mm LED with dremel.
Cut away and shape the bulb holder - with the long ones, i stuck wire through the holes so that they weren't distorted during the cutting.
Slide LED into holder
Solder resistor on the back
Solder thinner wire (the LED anode lead is too thick so they don't fit well)
Heat shrink around the resistor and + lead combo.
Bend wires up, twist bulb in place
WAY TOO MUCH WORK!! spend the extra money on the neo leds. I ran out but I did everything except the indicator lights for the AC settings as you can see in the pic.
Also, I used a flat tip iron because it was all i had. It happened to work better for the desoldering than a pencil tip.
Once my neo 3mm come, I will do the switches. I may work on the knob circuit board tonight. I'm a little worried about messing it up. I also messed up the indicator for the rear defroster - the contact pad on the green part of the board just came right off and the solder wouldn't bite, dunno what happened, not the end of the world.

I used the same solder, but i used some janky old flat tipped iron that I had laying around. I tried reseating the ribbon cable, may try again. That;s like all i can think of, unless i really f'd up the soldering which i dont think that I did. Really at a loss, but its just the stupid indicator lights
