Just finished the install today. Took a little over an hour and a half including time to run to autozone to get an adapter for my drill.

Installed mine several months ago. It's a life changer with these arthritic knees. Even moreso as I'll be replacing the Nfab nerf/steps with rock sliders.

Thread related question, did the drivers A-pillar airbag deploy? If so, did the handle affect anything?

Yes, the airbag deployed as it should have! It deployed just as the one on the passenger side did.
All curtain bags deployed.

the handle wont affect anything on the driverside, as the design is same as passenger side. further its mounted FWD/(front) of the airbag and the airbag deploys AFT/(back).

Totally miss having this handle. Had it and used it all the time on my FJ.

Think I’m going to hit up Ellis Precision and get some custom grab handles too.

I'm afraid to drill that hole in the A pillar as there seems to be something behind it. will that plastic thing behind the A pillar come into play when drilling the hole (the hole closest to the dash)? Does anyone know what that is behind there?

I think [MENTION=200736]ElectroBoy[/MENTION] mentioned something about it?

the plastic behind it is null and void...- its whats called a assembly line aid - its designed with way extra plastic and put in side the A-pillar cavitiy and holds nut plates and other things in place that mount in the area. once those items are mounted and installed that extra plastic is just there forever.

Can you imagine how long it would take if the assembly line people had to reach in and put mounts, nut plates for all the wiring, mounts etc in the area.

I have disassembled many cars and done tons of mechanic/modification work and it helps to live in SAN ANTONIO, TX where the Toyota Factory is have engineering buddies to confirm things like this...

There is no harm/no foul to a sheet metal screw dig'n a bit into some left over plastic.

Take things apart and you can see so many factory quick assembly mounts greatly overbuilt for what everyone would think is overdone but its all about time/fast assembly.

Today I mounted my Driver’s Side “A” Pillar Grab handle on my 2021 TRDORP.
As usual, thanks to a well designed lower bracket, it came out perfect!

Wish there was a how to video on Youtube or something for this, I always like to know what I'm getting myself into before doing it.

So do we have to actually drill into the metal A pillar itself? Or just drill out a hole in the A pillar cover and shave some black plastic underneath? Most folks are mentioning that this is fairly easy but after going through this thread, everything seems a tad vague with limited pictures that are usually just the finished product.

No hate I just really want to do this mod and want more detailed info, always sucks to start a project before being prepared and I live in a small town without a nearby Lowes.
