I have the Rola Rack on my 4Runner as well. I must say it looks nice and I've received over the years a lot of compliments from other 4Runner owners and workers at the Toyota service center have stated it should have came like this from factory, lol and I have to agree.
I have had the Rola Rack on my 4Runner since I bought it back three years ago. I did not have my 4Runner for more than a week before buying the rack. lol.
The rack looks nice, serves its purpose and I'm sure I'll get more years of use from it.
The not so good -
It had rusted like crazy and honestly it's a lot of rust. I read about the rust issues prior to buying but thought I would take the plunge as it beat a ARB Rack or anything else. When I recieved mine I cocked and sealed all areas that lead to the inside of the metal to prevent build up of water and moisture which will lead to rust eventually. But,,, still water and moisture managed to get inside the metal bars. :frusty: The exterior paint they use doesn't get applied very well and in some spots you may want to touch up with something from the auto parts store near you of your choice because otherwise your leaving the metal exposed to the elements. The exterior paint can take a beating for the first year or so but after that forget it.
I'll try and snap some pics of my roof rack on my 4Runner this evening and also up close pics of the rust its developed over the three years since I bought the rack. I purchased the rack brand new. Honestly I give it about 3.75 to 4.0 out of a 5.0 rating. Because even though it's rusted in a couple spots it's still doing it's job, looks good still and I'm sure I'll get a lot more use out of it before I have to replace it with something better.
BTW get the extention for the middle to make it longer - the Rola Rack like any roof rack looks like crap on a vehicle in short length. The short length looks puny and stupid.
Also to answer your other questions about the rack. It does get very noisy at times with the wind going down the road. I always like to get the shade cover on my moon roof open to let sunlight in but sometimes I have to shut it due to the amount of noise - But I would not consider this so noticeable as bad unless your going over 50 mph down the road. Now with the moon roof open it does get even louder like I'm in the cockpit of a plane about to take off. lol. But I deal with it or it annoys me I close the moon roof cover but also BTW I live in Kansas and it's always super windy hear so yeah. lol. When I lived in Tennessee I don't remember it being so noisy. So maybe that will help out. But also before buying I realized I was putting something ontop of my vehicle which does throw off the aero dynamics a little bit and will make noise. But as I recalls living in the mountains of east Tennessee it was not as loud. Here in Kansas with the wind -always- blowing it sounds louder. Winds are always blowing here and a typical day it's like 20 mph or more winds.
