Rent one. Kinda like how you rent one during your high school prom. You need to start investing in suits, ties, and slacks. How do you pick up women without these? lol Maybe the last guy had too much gel in his hair or had dirty fingernails and also maybe didn't brush his teeth. lol Anyways, just dress up as if you're going to a prom and act confident.

I don't know that I have time to rent one at this point. Anytime I've done that I had to get measured a couple weeks early.

I've got the ties and slacks, just haven't had a suit for a good ten years. I've been with my wife for the past ten years so I haven't had to worry about picking up any women. I don't think I even remember how at this point anyway. :D

I think I've settled on just a tie now though. Looks like I'm gonna be paying a crapload for taxes this year so a suit is out of the question. As happy as I am about winning the SeaDoo last year, it has really screwed me at this point. That's a different thread though.
 
The best advice I've found for interview attire is to dress at the same level your interviewer will be dressed. I personally would not go more than 1 level above the type of dress my interviewers will be in. I think a suit is appropriate if the other party is wearing a jacket or suit. Slacks, dress shirt, and tie is a good level for business casual environments or business formal during hot summer months, assuming the other party is not in a suit. If the people that work where you are applying wear jeans, then I think slacks and a dress shirt without a tie would be fine. Essentially, you would be in business casual in a casual dress environment. That way you look professional without standing out as over dressed.

Update

Well, I went in this morning for my interview and I must say that I looked pretty damn sharp. Wasn't really nervous until the drive home and then it hit me hard. Anyways, I got a call this afternoon and I got the position. Woooohoooooo:reddance: I start March first. Can't wait.

Does the government normally pay less, but give better benefits or do they pay about the same and still give good benefits?

Congratulations - regarding pay and benefits, the pay variance depends on the type of job and agency. It also depends on location. The federal government pays locality pay based on the average income of the private sector in the location. For example, here in Dallas, I get an additional 18% on top of the base OPM national general schedule, due to the location. The same person at my same GS pay schedule in Houston, makes about $8000 a year more due to the average private sector salary down there being higher than Dallas, whereas the same position in bodunk, USA, may make $8000 less. The benefits are the same across the board for federal agencies, other than maybe tuition reimbursement, daycare allowances, etc.... In comparison to the type of job - I am in federal law enforcement, and my salary is much higher than my counterpart in a state, county, or local law enforcement agency. The big benefit to government employment, is the civil service protection after one year of employment. You have to really, really, screw up to be terminated, and even then, it literally takes an act of Congress to fire you. Good luck on your career with the government. I have been there for going on 22 years now, and would not trade a day of it for any other job.

Thanks. Out here in South Dakota the pay and the benefits are a lot better. I don't know if it's the same in other states but here there is a huge difference. It is a GS11 position and I will be making ten bucks an hour more for doing the same job. I'm stoked.

Today at work I was letting the directors of the different departments I am responsible for that I would be leaving in a couple weeks. All of them were upset that I was leaving (apparently I did my job well), but one of them actually was mad that I was leaving (did my job too well, lol). Made me feel good to hear how much they appreciated me. Makes going to work everyday worth it. Hope to be able to establish that same kind of reputation at the new spot.
 
No "Go Away" party???? If someone gets mad that you're leaving then they didn't appreciate you while you were there. They only appreciate how you did a well job. Last time i gave my 2-week's notice, lotsa peeps were in tears. I also had a "Go Away" dinner, and a guaranteed job in case i wanna come back. :)
