Finally, a real competitor in 2017

I seem to be in the minority, my 2002 Silverado 4x4 with the 5.3L was flawless. Never had issue one with it. Still kick myself daily for selling it earlier this year.

I for one am excited to see this option, but am more anxious for the Ranger and Bronco to debut in 2019. After traveling South America last year and seeing the Ranger all over down there, it's definately a future option for me. Great lines and a good size for a daily.

As for the tire in the bed, if you got the ZR2 page, it states its an add on option.

I'm with you. I never had any issues with my 2000 Silverado 2x4 with 5.3L. Not one repair in 10 years and 120k miles.

I sold it for the exact same reason that Colorado really isn't competition for a 4Runner: interior cargo space. I was freshly divorced with joint custody of two kids. No room inside an extended cab pickup for backpacks, sports gear, car seats, etc. And maneuvering a mid-sized SUV in heavy traffic and parking garages is phenomenal vs an ocean-liner-length crew-cab pickup.

If I ever move back to the country after the kids are grown and gone I will look to getting another truck. Until then... nope.

My 2004 extended cab Z71 5.3 was also pretty reliable. I sold it in 2012 to a supervisor of mine with 140k on it. He now has over 210k on it and has only had to replace the water pump. I only sold it because I had two kids in car seats and I was tired of the red color. I almost bought a Tundra but instead brought home a new crew cab ecoboost that was knocking by 40k miles and had a bunch of other issues. I ended up trading that for my 5th gen.

I also had a 1992 chevy extended cab Z71 5.7 5-speed. I really liked that truck but it was only really reliable up to 100k. After that it started to nickle and dime me but I enjoyed driving it. I ended up selling it in 2009 with 180k on it. I used to see it around up until last year.

In the market for a new truck again and put my name down for a Cement colored TRDP Tundra. I won't lie though, those new 10-speed ecoboost F150's and especially this ZR2 colorado are eye catching.

Dead sluggish at 6000 feet.

And I doubt we'll ever see a Toyota diesel in the US that isn't running an American built engine.
 
I have zero interest in owning this truck but I'm very interested in seeing one, and I hope they sell well. Seems like a well thought out concept.

Wonder what the Colorado's reliability is like now. I know the new ones were recalled before they even were really out, last year..

One was used with less than 1,500 miles. Demon check engine light. Could never find anything. Putting electrical tape on the gauge cluster is not my idea of a fix. This was a 90's Blazer. I guess I should have expected as much but the GF wanted it.

Yeah, I had a Hummer H3. Don't want to go into how that happened. This one really didn't fall apart but driving it was terrible. The tranny felt like it was slipping. It was a stopgap vehicle so it went before it broke.

Third was a 2008 GMC Yukon. Bought this with 8 miles on the odo. Blew the rear main seal under 500 miles. Just before 1,500 miles the tranny puked it's guts out on the way back from Big Bear. That did it. Never again.
 
Meh. First off, it's a pickup, not an SUV, so of no use to me. Second, they don't have Toyota's reputation for quality -- just the opposite.
 
This truck is going to blow the new Tacoma away. Toyota IMO screwed up with the new Tacoma and now they will pay the price with GM coming out with the most capable pickup in the class (maybe even more capable than any pickup?). The only truck with specs similar to the ZR2 is the Power Wagon and that truck is a behemoth. The ZR2 looks to be a cross between the Power Wagon and the Ford Raptor.

And of course the ZR2 comes out after I just buy a 2016 4runner....but I'm sure it's going to be too overpriced for me anyway and I have no regrets with the 4runner. But this truck is a game changer in the midsize class. The ZR2 would be a great overland vehicle. GM is not playing around this time.

edit: regarding the price...it would cost 50k plus to buy a regular truck and put what this truck has stock on it...plus it all has a factory warranty.

We all see what we want to see. While it's pretty cool and will definitely progress the segment I don't foresee it as a game changer. As it stands now I see about 40:1 Tacomas to Colorado and Canyons combined. The truck side of me loves seeing this don't get me wrong. The Raptor is a fantastic truck and I see 40:1 Raptor to Tundra TRDpro. Time will tell but there are a lot of Tacoma owners on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Tacomas and will not allow you to rip them out of their cold dead hands.

I look at it this way. Sure I can go get one of these for 50+K and chances are they will be in the shop for warranty work. Or I can spend 40K, add aftermarket goodies come in less than 50+K and not be in the shop.

Yeah the current Colorado/Canyons are not a ZR2. This truck is a game changer for GM. Also the Colorado/Canyons are very reliable trucks. The current Tacoma is a mistake for Toyota (basically just a refresh with a new car based motor and trans that gear hunts excessively, same frame for ten years now) and fortunately for them has been the only 4x4 capable truck in this segment until now. I hope the new ZR2 is a huge success so then maybe Toyota will get off their butts and truly redesign the Tacoma to compete.

I am just as big as a Toyota fanboy as anyone here, but I can recognize a superior product when I see it. The ZR2 is better than the current offering from Toyota.

The new one has a twin turbo V6! It's like a proper V8 with a supercharger, but better because it combines the natural low end torque and reliability of a lightweight small block V6 with the proven durability and off road reliability of Ford turbocharging. It'll be yuge!

I too scratch my head about it, especially the newest version. But their sales numbers and fanboy loyalty even in our 5th Gen section proves why I never earn a dime in marketing. Maybe it’s just because I shop Amazon instead of going to the mall. :biggrin2:

I'm interested in seeing what the actual percentage of sales will be. They are assuming only 5% of Colorado/Canyon sales. I don't know if I agree with that. I'd say it does better. It will be fun to see on the street and trails. From what I gather even the fanboys don't think the diesel is powerful enough and are hinting at wanting the V6. All conjecture until it comes out.

I'm still learning but I read that it has cast iron control arms. Reason?
