Front ABS sensor broken o ring

Update: After many miles of searching, Ace Hardware had this metric 20mm OD X 17mm ID X 1.5mm DIA o ring.
O ring on the left, in zip lock is oem. The right side o ring is Ace.

Along the way to Ace, I checked all the parts stores/fastener stores along the route to no avail.


So mines is a goner. I know something should be there to seal out the water and dirt that could makes it's way to the pressed in wheel bearing and contaminate it.

I was thinking of fipg'ing along the flange on the sensor. Or maybe customizing a fiber gasket to fit over the abs flange to seal out the water and dirt?

Only way to get the new o ring is to buy a new oem sensor.

This issue is a minor one, I'm just wondering what the ingenious members on here did when they came across this issue on they're own rig. Thanks

Ya, that's the thing, sadly my local pick and pull dried up on any kind of 4runners. I guess 3rd gens parts are too much in demand these days. And are a better profit margin to sell these off themselves off their corporate used parts online site. And the retail lots will not let you touch their cars in their yards. They prefer their staff remove the parts.

Its the abs sensor (cylindrical shape) that slides into the spindle hub cavity, and secures by a single 10mm hex head bolt. PN# 8954335050.
The o ring is on the sensor itself.

Both sides of mines are either flattened or in pieces, hard to get a measurement.
I probably could've eventually zeroed in the size of the o ring with a couple of trial and errors.

I recently wiped out my wheel bearing. It was terrible driving around, noise, vibs.
The inner spindle seal is dry and seems to be in great shape with no leaks.
Im thinking water/dirt intrusion via abs sensor wiped out my bearing.

I'd suggest going to an o-ring supplier, they shouldn't need much more than rough measurements to get you squared away. Chances are there's a couple in your area, or at least within your state - you just never know they exist until you do business with them
Otherwise you might be going on a wild goose chase for a 10 cent part

Could be it was a coincidence loosing the bearing and seeing my o ring is not sealing anymore.

Seems like the primary consensus is replacing with another o ring.
Off to the o ring stores....

Probably with my luck, only sells in a bag of 25.

I have local hardwire store all different sizes o ring. I know it he metric. I am hoping I have a few abs cables down there.. is the back and front holes the same size?

Don't know. I didn't think of the front and rear sensors would have the same diameter barrel size. I'll have to see when I get out...

Perhaps a first gen Tacoma? Not sure if they're the same but I'd imagine they probably are. Verify part numbers just in case though.

First gen Tacomas would work. The sad case is any year Tacomas are even rarer than the 4runner in the Pick and Pull yards.

Tacomas do make it to the retail yards though.
Retail yards are the only way to go these days here for 3rd gen parts.
Before the pandemic there more than 5 3rd gens at any given time in the pick and pulls. Sad times where Im at.

Most of my area, the 3rd gens are gone. My favorite yard rarely now even has one in inventory anymore.

Mostly, it's the 15 to 20 years. After 25 getting rarer. Well, that's at least my area.


I didn't find a front abs sensors I would have to pull if I could get them out of a parts mobile...

This a easy fix Ace is the place it a nothing special O-ring.
Front is smaller dia than rear sensor didn't have one on shelf to measure.
Look for O-ring that fits groove easily but fully on cross section, O-ring should fit inner diameter snug.
With O-ring in place on sensor O-ring should be 1-2mm larger in diameter than body of sensor.
Industry Standard for sizing O-rings.
Make sure you clean sensor hole to bare metal lil grease in hole lil grease on O-ring gtg.

Thanks for the info. Sorry guys, I know it's just a simple o ring. I'm trying to get educated on fitment as much as possible before wasting time, mileage and $ to head out to the stores and get the close enough .10 cent o ring.

Nothing wrong with this thinking. As it's definitely different times and now you have me curious...lol

Who mfg the original abs for toyota would it be asin? If so check and see if they know what the o ring size is.

As I may or may not get these sensors out. [ rust belt] is rough on the steel....

Been to the Asin website. I saw abs sensors for other models but, I didn't see a listing for the pre 01 4runners. I emailed them, still waiting for a reply.
