Front Runner Rack Options

Maybe ordering this rack soon. Anyone who has the frontrunner rack recommend who to order from, i may be getting the 3/4 option which goes a little over the sunroof. I know it is not listed on the website so maybe just have to call Frontrunner direclty and place order? Also how long did it take for it to be delivered? any deals for t4r members they give y'all?

I debated whether to get the standard length (that doesn't cover any part of the sunroof) or the slightly longer model that you are considering. In the end, I got the standard length because the guys at Frontrunner said they had no issue hauling kayaks on the standard length rack and the front portion of the longer rack isn't particularly sturdy from a load bearing perspective. I also did not want any portion of the sunroof covered. I picked a Trail in part for the Sunroof so that just would have been idiotic to do that.

From time of order to arrival at my door, it took about 7 business days.

Cue my question: How's the wind noise with the sunroof open after adding the rack? :D

I'm going to be honest. The wind noise is noticeable on anything other than a calm day. But I think any rack other than the stock one would give you additional wind noise. How much is tolerable is purely subjective. I don't regret installing the rack if that's what you're asking.

Finally ordered

So today I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the full length Front Runner slimline II roof rack! I had to do a little calling around because the full length wasn't posted on their website. The full length should cover everything I need i.e. RTT, Max trax, and Rotopax. Will post pics when I get it installed.

Hey Gabex, mind checking something on your rack for me? I'm curious if, with the low-pro antenna, there is room to slide one of those frontrunner tables underneath (approx 1.5''). Thanks.

my full length rack gets here tomorrow, going be crunched for time getting it on before I leave for the cove meet-up.
im a dealer for Front Runner so I'm ecstatic to be able to rep this awesome rack.
if anyone wants a quote on one hit me up. [email protected]

ill post up when I get it on with pictures and such.

I am pretty excited to see this, as it's going to be an option later on down the line...

Just got my FR standard rack ordered. Any of you guys using FR snowboard/ski rack? If so, how do you like it?

If anyone is interested, I installed the snowboard rack option from FR. It's design well. Smaller than Thule or Yakima and only holds 2 board max.

Just installed my rack Sunday. I'm sticking with my Yakima. I sometimes have 5 boards up with me so I need the capacity. Had to remove a couple slats in the FR rack to make space for the bindings. I don't see how you can have the clearance for a second board with bindings on the FR snow rack.

Looks good man. Yeah, I'll need to take the bindings off 1 board to fit 2 boards on the FR rack. I usually don't carry more than 2 boards when I go with my family. How many slats did you take off?

Just 2 but I could have probably kept one and adjusted the spacing a bit better. With that sb rack and removing the bindings it's probably not worth it to remove any. Even with the Yakima racks sitting a but higher of the bars, my bindings just barely have enough space to not touch the roof.

Has anyone here put a Yakima skybox on a Front runner rack? I asked them and they didn't say definitively that it would fit and I haven't been able to find any pics.

If anyone in Marin has a Frontrunner maybe I could come over with my skybox and try it out? We could post some pictures here and be Internet heroes to tens of people with the same question! Might be a beer or two in it for you too ;)

I'm installing my 3/4 rack this weekend and will be putting my skybox 16 on it. I'll post pics once installed and let you know how it goes. I'm going off of this for a frame of reference, thinking that it should work the same way. Only difference is a Landcruiser with a slightly longer rack, but it should mount the same.

i don't plan on mounting more than a few wolf pack boxes and Maxtrax to the front so i am not too worried about the load on front of the rack. I can't vouch for how much that front mounting point can hold in terms of weight. I mount my RTT between the two rear OEM mount points.

Just quoting you to answer a lot of peoples worries/questions.

When they were designing the full length rack I helped in choosing the location of the front mounting holes. If you buy the full kit that comes directly from front runner(or me :thumb3: ) (with the full side mounts) the front holes are positioned directly over the strongest part of that section of roof. In that area there are 5 layers of support metal. along with a small brace that runs side to side. The roof supports the weight of the 4Runner in the event of a rollover. pretty confident that it will hold up what ever you need to put on your rack.

But I'm with you on loading out the rack, I sit my RTT on the back and the front gets loaded with the transit bag with our clothes and wolf packs with camp gear...

I found that the Skybox 16 actually fits better than with the Thule Aerobars. It took about 5 minutes to get the clamps adjusted onto the right rails. The 2nd rail for the front grabs and 5th rail for the rear seemed to give the best fit and allow for the rear hatch to fully open. All that’s left is to see if there is a noticeable noise difference with the Skybox and Frontrunner as there was not much with the Aerobars.

You rule! You are an Internet hero to one and counting ;-) Really appreciate you taking the time to post those pics. After the white knuckle sliders are installed the frontrunner rack is going on!
