Gear shift knob change

It screws on because it's the same thread pitch. HOWEVER, it's about 1 cm too tall. By the time it gets tight enough to stay in place, the bottom of the knob is already hitting the base of the shifter's plastic surround.
Before you ask, a thread extension won't work as the knob's hole is too small. When I get some time off work I'm going to design something that'll allow it to work properly. However, until that time, this knob isn't compatible with our rides.
The engineer in me is thinking of a threaded plug with a hex socket so that you can use an allen wrench to screw it into the knob. This would then fill in the void needed to prevent the knob from bottoming out. Something like this, with a driver bit depression... However, the socket, I imagine, would be super small.

Now we're talking! I really like that, minus the red stitching maybe, which is an easy fix. Now if they only had a matching transfer case knob...

Excellent idea. I've just ordered a set in various lengths from Palmer Bolt & Supply. Hopefully one of them does the trick.

Sure thing. As soon as it arrives I'll post back with the information on which one (if any) works. I bought the knob over a month ago now and I've been itching to get it installed.
Btw, if anyone is interested: I bought various lengths of hex head set screws in M8 x 1.25, ranging from 8mm to 20mm.

I like this one it matches the console colors well, not sure if I like it for $85 though. My $8 Walmart special will have to do for now I guess

Not sure I agree with you mentalblock. Barring the cost I do like the look, although maybe in these pictures it looks kind of big like a joy stick for an arcade game. But besides that, the feel is very important imo.
Mentalblock I think yours looks good. But more important how does it feel? It looks like it would be a lot more user friendly and confortable to shift with?
Interested in everyone's thoughts.

Here's what I did;
Get a bottle of Bright White touch up paint and a container of PVC Primer. The primer is what you use prior to glueing PVC pipes together. It happens that is what I had handy.
Clean the knob well of any grease, beer or snot, I used 3M body solvent. Dry it well.
Use the brush in the touch up paint and fill the voids in the knob with white. Don't have to worry about being neat as the primer will remove any excess.
GENTLY wipe away any excess with the primer and keep repeating until the only area white is the numbers/lines/lettering.

Gotta revive this one. I have my rock warrior shift knob on it's way and want to make sure I have the right set screw. I stopped in at Home Depot, and picked up some different length set screws, all 8mm. But that refers the the width, I really should have though of the thread size. How can I order the set screw that I need to make this shifter work?
