Got my wheels! Now help me decide what size wheel spacers to buy please....

So i decided to purchase some 5-spoke OEM wheels off a 2000 4runner. They are being powdercoated black right now. They are 16x7, and i will be mounting 315/75/16 tires to them. I know an 8" wide wheel is recommended but it seems another member ran this setup with no issues. In a pm i was told that he ran 1.25" wheel spacers and no BL, but on a hill turning under full lock it rubbed the frame.

My question is if im running the same size wheels/tires what spacer should i go with to avoid the frame rubbing. The spacers arent returnable after install and even if they show no signs of wear are charged a 20% restock fee plus shipping them back. So id like to make the right decision the first time. Considering he was running 1.25" and still rubbing, ive been debating on 1.5" vs. 2"...heck they even make 3" but that seems rediculous.

What do you guys think?

I honestly would just get the 1.25" spacers. I seriously doubt that you are going to get away from rubbing on the frame regardless so just get the spacers that are going to be nicer to your wheel bearings. Do you have a lift? The user that you are talking about has the maximum amount of suspension lift you can get a 4Runner without modification and I'm guessing he is still going to have rubbing issues if he tries to go offroad. I have about a 2.5" lift with 285/75s and I had to pound at the pinch weld, cut some plastic and they still rub under compression. Good luck whichever route you decide to go but I definitely wouldn't run a 2" spacer on daily driver.

you NEED a lift for 315's and 2'' spacers are good to balance out the height to make it more stabile and less/no rubbing

It might have been a better idea to purchase aftermarket rims with more back spacing, then running spacers. I dont trust them at all. Every now and then we use to put them on our quads and they never stayed tight...there is no way in hell I would ever put them on a automobile. Just my 2 cents.

The wheels were $250 plus $300 for sandblast/powdercoating then still gotta have the painter clear the wheels and paint the caps, so ill have $600 or so in them by the time its done. Bgmac yea aftermarket wheels prolly woulda been the same price but i really like the OEM 5-spokes. BTW my brand new 33's with black 6-spokeswill go up for sale if anyones interested (see pic in sig).

My truck has an SS 1.2 lift with a Roger Brown 1.5" BL on the way, and i dont mind grinding/cutting the pinch welds. BTW i removed the running boards too.

So back to the drawing board. 1.5" or 2" spacers? If 1.25" rubs it doesnt make sense to go that route. But are the thicker spacers really worse on the bearings, afterall the bearing doesnt know if your running wheel spacers or a low offset wheel right?

Still welcoming more opinions on which size spacers to buy so i spend the $160-200 wisely the first time.

I got my powdercoated 5-spoke Toyota wheels back today and had them mounted to 315/75/16 Toyo A/T's. Im very pleased with how they turned out, ill have my painter take care of the centercaps tomorrow.

I ended up ordering the 1.5" spacers. Ill let ya' know how they end up working out.:hatsoff:

This is where i saw your truck at!! This is Matt, the one that sold you the wheels/tires. I was going to say, those wheels look very familiar!! They look awesome with the powdercoating. Let me know when you are going to put the body lift on. I was debating between the 1.5" and 1" body lift. If i would have known you where looking for wheel spacers, i had a pair of 1.25" spacers laying around you could have tried on to see if they would have worked.

Got my spacers installed with the 33's. Also i just installed the complete 1.5" BL, whew! Gonna throw the 35's on tomorrow and see how much trimming will be needed on the front fender well. Bye bye running boards!

Truck looks great.

I just picked up a set of the 2000 6 spoke for my 1997 and they really improve the look of the truck.

I see you have the Bilsteins. I recently put in KYB's all around (and 99 springs) and considering how much the installation cost ($400 labour only) I wish I had spent the extra money for the Bilsteins. Either way, still a big improvment.

Spidertrax spacers is the way to go

Well, moving right along...here she is on 35's finally. At 6', 7" it BARELY clears the garage. Happy its under 7" now i can go through the local carwash...and mall crawl in covered parking.

No gears yet man, will be next on the list.
