Having a difficult time choosing coils for my 4th with 5100 Bilsteins on the way

I have been thinking and discussing with few of you about which coils to get for my Bilstein 5100's. At first I was just going to install the 5100's and set at 2.5" up front and use the rear daystar 1.5" coil lift. Now I'm considering getting new coils all around so I don't have to go back to the shop later on. I'm leaning towards the Toytec 2.0 for the rear and Eibach for the front. Will I need any additional hardware for the front or do the eibach coils bring everything I need for installation? How high should I expect my 4R to be with that set up? 2.5" or 3" lift? I would like to fit 285/70/17 in the future with some nicer wheels. Don't mind trimming a little if necessary. Are UCA's a must at that point? My shop had a difficult time aligning my current set up with the 2.5/1.5 DS and 265/70/17's so I'm thinking I may need the UCA's if I go any higher. My truck has always had a very slight pull to the right before and after alignments. According to the tech he went as far as he could and was barely in spec the last two alignments I did. Any suggestions and help would be appreciated so I can finalize my purchases and get this done soon. Thanks!

Hey - not sure on the lift with the coils you mentioned but I would recommend you get a new top hat for each front shock. I went with the common 5100 and ome 885 set up. I have stock UCAs and my alignment went well, BUT I replaced my lower control arms and all their hardware at the same time. As a result, the shop had full mobility of the bottom to get the alignment straight.

Hopefully that helps a bit.

I bought these top hats:

https://www.amazon.com/KYB-SM5640-Mount-Kit/dp/B00C7S0KA8

So I just ordered the 3" Toytec/Eibach coils with 5100's in the front and toytec 2.0 Super Flexs with boss shocks for the rear. I chose this over OME's because of ride quality. My truck has so low miles and in such great shape, I don't plan on really beating it on the trail- 90% road 10% Trail. The OME's are said to be a bit stiffer. I was on the fence. That's what they recommended.

I went to the 4WheelParts store here in Va Beach and talked to their toyota specialist. Showed him the order, he said i should get the full 3" in the front.

Talking with Toytec on the phone, the tech said i should see a 1/4-1/2" Rake rear being higher. He said that the trucks are designed that way, and the slight rake is imperative for the electronics in the traction control and abs systems to work properly.

I hope this helps.

I will say that I find the 885s to be a tad stiff but that's not surprising considering spring rate etc. If I did it again, I'd likely have gone with so etching softer. That is until I inevitably buy a bumper....

I actually saw a video on YouTube and the tech said that the part you mentioned comes included with the 3" eibach shock lift kit. That is one of the reasons why I asked if the coils bring more mounting parts other than just the coils. Here is the video:

Im guessing that's the same lift I'm going to end up with. Did you order the front end parts separately or do they come assembled from toytec? It looks like they use a spacer and reduce the shock setting down to .85 or 1.75 with their preasembled kit.

I really don't want a rough ride so I think Eibach and Toytec are the way to go for me.

Looks good. That's the amount of lift I'm trying to see.

...the slight rake is imperative for the electronics in the traction control and abs systems to work properly.

Why is this?
I thought most guys with coilovers end up leveling wheel wells to the same height which means no more rake.

True but you can do a zero point calibration to help the VSC and ABS work properly again. There's several threads on this but here is just one. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/probl...ac-vsc-off-lights-zero-point-calibration.html

FWIW, I have not done this to my lifted and slightly leveled 2008 and very rarely does the VSC kick in.

Interesting. I wonder why the significantly heavier spring rate of the Eibachs produce a softer ride.

Did you order this kit or the parts seperately?
3" Lift W/ Bilstein 5100 Height Adj Coilovers FJ/4Runner
I ended up getting the shocks from another vendor but I may need to order the coils from toytec. Considering the Eibach fronts and 2.0's for the rear. I am not sure if ordering just the coils if I will need more parts to complete the kit.

Humm... that seems expensive... for a 100-200 more than that I ended up with 6112 in the front...

If you are about to drop $900 on that, I would recommend you price out some 6112s as it really is that much better than a 5100.

Just checked my invoice (Wheelers OffRoad)... $1220 with a set of Superbumps and their shop labor for the front strut assembly...

So parts only... about $1000 shipped.
6112 with springs
Rear 5100s
Rear OME 2895

I ended up with the kit I posted. Was trying to stay under $1,000 so it fit the bill.
If I didnt have a budget then the ICON lift with the Black Friday sale was $1,400. That would have been my next choice. Not sure if I will need UCA's either. Waiting to see how it all aligns first. If I find a good deal on the SPC's before I install the lift then I'll just buy them before hand.

This is a very smart move on your part. Do they come with two units per package or one unit per package?

I just bought 5100 front with 620# toytec spring, and rear icon VS 2.0 with 2inch superflex springs. I was told by toytec to set it at .85 in front to give about a 3/2 lift.

When I spoke to them they advised a 0 setting with their 1/2" spacer to give the same 3" lift from their Toytec package. According to their site it says between a 1/2"-3/4" lift with the spacer. The spacer was only $65 for the pair.
I also bought the KYB top hats from amazon which was recommended earlier in the thread and also by Toytec. My Bilsteins came with the bushing kit from Downsouth Motorsports. Make sure yours did as well because sometimes they don't.

I had already gotten some parts, so my question was specifically toward what setting on the 5100 to get between 2.5-3 inches. He said .85.

Pardon my ignorance, but why are some suggesting the new top hats? Just to have new parts in place?

I'm no expert on this subject but it's just a good thing to do I guess.

So would eibach up front work with ome in the back with stock shocks and XREAS
