Her First Time Towing

Finally got a week off from touring so I decided to try out my baby and tow our 15' sailboat. She towed like a charm. No real issues other than mpg dropped, which I had expected. Barely could tell anything was behind her.

Boat ramp is only a few miles from my house, around 15 but in pure NY stop & go traffic. Kept in S mode the entire way even though the boat/trailer only weights about 1,200lbs. Going to upgrade to a bigger boat 26' in a few weeks. Gonna probably install an aux trans cooler to be on the safe side, and order some air bags for the rear from sagging. Anyone know if you can install the air bags without taking apart much of the suspension? Like is there a way to just squeeze the air bags in between the springs? Im not technically challenged at all, just rather lazy lol and working with limited time.

Although I have had her for over 6 months now, she only has 2,200 miles on her. Any thoughts on what else should I add other than the aux trans cooler, and air bags? Brake controller later, and new LT tires probably before the winter months.

When I installed my air bags I had to remove the springs which is not that hard, but a shop will charge you an arm and a leg. If you take your time it should not take more than 3 hours in your driveway or garage.

Unfortunately, I travel for a living. I have only been home about 4 weeks since I have gotten her. Also the reason why I could care less about mpg really only have to fill her up like 10 times a year lol. Have a pile of mods laying around the house to install, just no time with her, maybe a little separation anxiety.

WDH and trans cooler

Do the 5th gens not come with a stock transmission cooler? Surprised if that's the case. I re-read the manual and will use my WDH to keep the front end of the 4R level. Toypta recommends it along with an anti sway device, which is incorporated into my WDH.

My trailer is a Hi-Lo which weighs in dry around 2900 #. Hoping that the transmission will be "cool enough" to handle the load. Thoughts??

I did squeeze the bags in..although it wasn't pretty, but so far they have worked great...true to form.

I think the single most important upgrade is the LT's..others will argue, and say you don't need em'..but I disagree..

There is a cooler integrated with the radiator. Some choose to install an additional seperate cooler.

The rear springs come out super easy (at least on an SR5). I would think it would take much longer to try to squeeze them through.

The 5th Gen has a tranny cooler already, but when you get that bigger boat I would definitely add an external cooler.
