How To: AEM F/IC-6 Install, Tuning, and Help Thread

I think the Supra injectors flow in the 440cc range, and I think our stock ones are around 300ish? So it's less of a jump than the high performance ones and a little easier to tune.

There were some who just plopped them in a Taco with NO tuning and it ran ok. Not recommended though!

Ours flow 265cc supposedly, I have done quite a bit of reading on this.

Ran okay my ass!!!!

First off there is no chance of safely getting to 250-300 wheel with the urd 7th it doesn't have the capacity in the hardware or software to handle it. Most importantly what year is your 4runner? If it is 99 or newwer the 7th will not be an option because you can't tune closed loop without additional hardware.

Can you explain this in further detail?

The 7th cannot flow enough fuel to hit 300hp. Realistically it could hit 250, but not much more. The URD box is also not a great computer to start with, expecting to get the truck tuned using this system is asking a lot at those power levels. I haven't done the math here as far as cfm, but I would expect you would need a 2.0 pulley to get to these numbers to wheels. That's also the other key I figure we are talking about power to the wheels.

I am not saying that the 7th won't work for you, but if you want to get to these power levels safely I wouldn't recommend it as a 7th injector is a bandaid. Any real tuner will tell you that, bigger injectors is the way to go URD has the entire Toyota trucks market brainwashed and it is pretty cruddy because there are other options out there...

EDIT:

Just did the calculation and at 300 wheel the 7th would have to flow 750CC and With the upgraded 800cc 7th injector from URD you could do it, but it would be questionably safe because it would be working at 94% of it's duty cycle.

@MTD Have you run your 4Runner on a dyno yet to see what kind of power you're putting down?

My last run I had Supra 315cc Injectors, URD MAF/FTC (The 6 injector controller thing Gadget incorrectly told me I need), and stock pulley. With that, I was at 225hp and 255lb/ft of tq to the wheels.

I really should do another pull now that I have the 7th injector and 2.2 pulley...

I'm too poor to dyno right now lol. Maybe come summer, but I have to tune my mr2 b4 the 4runner... It would be interesting though ha-ha. You should have kept the big injectors! You could have converted to AEM ha-ha.

For me the URD stuff simply works. The ONLY down side I have noticed is that I have to cycle the engine off and on to load the new maps. I can live with that when I mess with it once a year at most.

And that's fair, but for me it wasnt good enough lol.

Question: if it's running good and you're happy with it...why do you have to load new maps once a year? And where do you get the new maps from...URD? How do you load them? Thanks...
A.Wilson013 how did you locate your tuner and Dyno Shop?? I'm look'in for one around centeral Ohio. I know of a dyno shop...but they're a diesel shop. I knew them through my truck. Most importantly look'in for a tuner that knows our Toyotas!! Anybody out there know of such a shop or tuner? I'd appreciate the tip! I wouldn't mind driving a little bit...western Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, or Kentucky. Thanks in advance!!

With regard to your first question- It runs great, but every now and again while driving I will notice points in the RPM/Boost range where my AFR isn't quite where I want it. For example, right now at around 2300 rpm and 4psi I am running quite rich. Low 11's. I have a little notepad in my glovebox where I'll make a note, and when I feel like messing with it- adjust as needed. As to where the maps come from... It came from URD with a "baseline" map loaded. From there I had it dyno'd at WOT and did a good bit of street tuning on my own. I just make changes to the map I have- I don't really load new ones.

Second question- There is a local shop that a friend referred me to. Honestly, if they shop is cool with you looking over their shoulder while they tune, I'd trust taking my vehicle there. The shop I took mine to had never seen Split Second's R4 software. Once I showed him how to connect to it and the map with the numerical values came up, he made it look easy.

I went back and looked and it's the N/A 7-MGE Supra injectors that people dropped in. They flow in the 300-315cc range, depending on the year. Still not recommended to just throw in there but a cheaper alternative to the high performance ones.

My plan is to use NA Supra injectors that Gadget talks about on his site. Get them pulled from a yard (8-10) and ship them off to one of the injector cleaner tester for a clean/refresh to get them "new" for use when I get the base tune and step up the powers. No need for the high performance ones on our 4runners really
