I've been waiting since 1997 .... while I've been fixing and hopping up toyota's since the early 90's... 1997 was the last tunable toyota ecu. Gone with the G force and the techtoms ecu chips..

Toyota doesn't like sharing... PERIOD

I'm not doubting you so you don't need to prove your knowledge to me. Yes, I'm new to Toyota. I just find it odd that the high hp turbo guys are using piggy back ECUs to make everything come together. I would have figured since Nissan could be tuned by their dedicated ECU/ TCM, that it could be done to a Toyota. Yes, I know, apples to oranges, but it was wishful thinking on my part.

So what are guys specifically using to tune the Toyota vehicles with modifications?

As far as I know... most are using complete stand alone ecu's... Most Supra owners are running Motec or an Aem stand alone. But really there hasn't been any major horsepower player in the toyota line up since the supra.

I've messed with piggy back ecu's like the old greddy emanage or apexi afc controllers. And the factory ecu modify's the a/fr's back to stock or near stock. The only real way is the complete replacement or bypassing of the ecu.

Now as for Gadget's piggy back ecu system. I have yet to really research the mod to quite understand it...

Anyway to post them back up TOYSTRY? It looks like you're selling our 4runner, but I think this is a great DIY to keep...

I have the K&N, I like the sound when you punch it and the quietness of when you are just cruising. IMO it feels more powerful. The Borla exhaust is the next toy.

Install as pretty basic. I didn't have instructions, my only advice is to do it with sufficient lighting. It's hard to complete in the dark lol.

I got all my parts a couple of weeks ago from Camelback, but one of the parts were used. Currently in the process getting the large red coupler exchanged but they said it was on backorder. It may take a month or longer! :noidea:

When I spoke to one of the guys at Camelback, he did say they recently got a lot of orders for these parts....I wonder why.....:tongue1:

Just trying to give info as it comes, but thank you!

Before you tell the parts store people you need 5/32" hose, make sure it is ID not OD as most is measured now.

I took my small nipple (yes I said NiPpLe) to the store and ended up purchasing 1/8" ID hose as it was a perfect fit!
Check your OEM vacuum hose for sizing!

Installed yesterday. Went smooth....don't forget silicone spray! Sounds amazing. Cleaned throttle body while I had easy access to it. Truck runs like a scalded dog and the sound is amazing. It's totally quiet under cruise. Intake combined with magnaflow exhaust is music to the ears.

I did mine last week also, was complete in 2-hours time, i did it my way, its funny how everywhere you read it says it wont fit the GEN-5 4runner,but it does perfectly. Every aspect and every screw and strap fits perfectly. I like the sound at WOT. Plus it loks cool and it was a reason to hide in the garage for a couple hrs. I cant figure out how to rotate my piucs, i suck at computers. Also i did this on my 2016-TRD-Pro

Biggest thing about this was the fact that I got it for almost half of normal cost by ordering individual parts thanks to you guys. All you have to do is get some hose and convoluted wire covers. I still need to get the wire tightened up a little.

Completed the install on the 2016.

Installation notes:

1) the wiring harness had a ton of factory tape - took the better part of an hour to remove and re-tape.

2) I couldn't find the hole for the zip-tie "tree-mount" for the vacuum hose, so I just zip-tied the vacuum hose to the vent hose (loosely).

3) the "air flow accelerator" fits loosely in the the fender hole making it difficult to connect the lower air-box. There's also very little room to see if the connection is good. Stick a hand through the air-box hole, grab the air flow accelerator, and push/pull to get them to connect.

4) connecting the intake tube to both the air-box and the throttle-body is a bit of a wrestling match. Silicone spray is your friend.

5) after completing the install and starting the engine, the engine immediately shut off. A second attempt (and since) worked fine.

Nice post! Mine did the same thing in (5) I am glad that it wasn't just mine that did it.
