Installed Hella MicroDE fogs w/ new turn signal stalk

I ordered it from the same eBay seller last week. It says it includes everything you need like relays, screws and etc. While I'm waiting for it to be delivered today, I asked the seller if mine should have everything or not. Here is his reply:

"If your listing stated switch and such..then you got it..
i just changed the listing yesterday...you probably got one of the last bags that had that stuff in kit....thanks

Ya they did change the listing recently. Which is unfortunate for me cause Im doing this from scratch as the 96-98s didnt come with fog lights.

So going back to my question, any advice would be appreciated.

@1985taylor1925, sorry for your experience. Mine was nothing but positive. I must have gotten in just before he changed the listing. About the brackets, though, mine didn't come with screws either because you're supposed to use screws already in place on your bumper (99-02 bumpers, anyway). Pre-99s without the fat-lip bumper may not have the same setup, I don't know. Also, the only wiring that came with mine was what was necessary to connect a dash switch to the wiring harness in the steering column. All of the actual lamp wiring is already there on 99-02 SR5s.

Wow buddy. Bad day? I sure did read the description and was aware of what I was getting. Thanks for keeping me in check though. I do think its stupid that they sell the bracket without the screws, especially considering that they used to sell them and just ran out a week ago. You would think they would simply order more and send them to me later as part of the set. But thats beside the point. My plan is to do a retrofit just like Blcktpgsr did. Check it out:

Notice that he and I have the same bumper. Amazing what creativity can do. I had just planned on getting a set of PIAAs and mounting them to my bull bar. But I kinda like the idea of fitting these onto my 98 bumper to make them look stock. Anyways, thanks for the helpful criticism. And have a wonderful day my friend

No bad day here just stating the obvious. as far as these kits they have been discontinued by Hella for a few years ago so that may be why the seller can't just order the hardware pack from hella anymore. like i said sorry if i came off the wrong way but yeah there are some people out there that just dont read before they buy and wonder why it is what it is. also did the listing that you bought the lights under specify that you were supposed to receive hardware to mount and wire them up? if so then that is definitely the sellers fault.

Ya thats kinda what I figured. Hardware wont be an issue. It just would have been convenient to have it there ready to go. But I have to custom fit these to my truck, so there is a chance I might not have used their hardware anyway.

That makes sense if Hella discontinued the kit. But its really not that big a deal anyway. I can get hardware. I knew exacty what I was getting and planned from the beggining to custom fit these to my truck. I could have just gotten a set of PIAAs or KCs and bolted them right onto my bull bar (this was my original plan). But these little lights get really good reviews, and I actually like the fact that I can retrofit them to my truck to where you wont really notice them until theyre turned on. Im going to mount them to one of three spots below. On both sides of course.



Cutting a hole and putting them into the valance like blcktpgsr did would be awesome, but I dont really want to cut a hole in my valance. And I dont want to carbon copy what he did. I could put them in one of the other two circled spots without any nobicable modification in the valance. And it would probably be easier.

They really do put out a lot of light for their size. I'm a little self-conscious right now about blinding oncoming drivers because aiming them has been a challenge, so I'm still working on that.

So ive been looking around for a wiring kit to work with the hella micro de's I just ordered. I found a few on ebay and amazon, but Im really just not sure what Im looking for. Can someone give me some direction here? Am I going to have to get the wiring from Toyota to make this work?

It works either way. I tried it both ways since I wasn't sure either and the instructions didn't specify. I ended up putting the black-and-white wire onto the ground terminal of the lamp, and the purple wire onto the white wire of the lamp. It just seemed to fit better that way when I put the boot on. When I did it the other way, the plastic sheath on the purple wire made it almost impossible to put the boot on because it stuck straight up off the ground terminal.

It is a standard Toyota relay basically. The dealership wanted i think 70 bucks when I asked them about it the other day. I found it on autozones web site for about 15 bucks.

You may want to call a dealer to confirm the correct part number, but I think it's here:
Part Detail
Scroll down to "RELAY, FOG LAMP". It's the one that fits in the empty space in your fuse block (labeled "FOG" on the cover). You could probably find it cheaper somewhere else, but I haven't looked. From the bottom, the prongs look like this if I remember right:

If you're doing the new turn signal stalk, you won't need anything else. I did, however, do the thing posted earlier in this thread about extending the breather thing so it's not directly in front of the tire. I just got a small 1/4" barb fitting from the plumbing section at Lowe's and some clear flexible tubing for that.

xjjeepman, my understanding is that all of the third gens used the same relay, but i haven't looked at any other fuze boxes to confirm this.

Thx guys, i did a quick lookup and it shows the same relay for both 99 & 00. So i think im good. And thx for the heads up on the breather tube, i noticed that while i read along. Will definitely have to do that to.

It's a tight fit in the rubber boot, but it isn't coming out. I couldn't find a 90* elbow like SKIDMRK used, but this works. I ran the tube a little differently since it's straight and not 90*, but same concept. I'll take a picture later and post.
