yes the red top will be my 2nd battery. ill more the likely fab a tray for it. I don't know yet on the controller. I 'm gathering all the parts as I go. so that I'm not dropping a bunch on money at one time. I should have it all done by the end of the month.
what would be a real good controller? this stuff is not my strong point. I have a good friend who will be helping me wire it all in. so any info would be nice.

The most simple one to wire up would be the one from IBS. I think [MENTION=62008]limamike[/MENTION] is running it and I'm sure could walk you through the install process.

Of course wiring up a controller like the IBS is not toooo much harder either, just a few extra wires really, so pick your poison and if you get stuck along the way I'm sure someone here can help you out

^^ What he said. The IBS instructions are fairly easy to follow. The most difficult part of the install is finding a place to mount the relays and running the wires!
EDIT: It's not a cheap solution, though. Depending on what you're wanting to run the aux battery for you might be better off with the solution that he linked to over at Expo.

The Optima red tops are their starting(normal) batteries and not made for an aux battery that will be deep cycled. The plates are closer together on starting batteries and will not last if run down below 10v many times and will burn out a cell,which leads to failure.
Their Yellow top and Blue top are dual purpose deep cycle and starting and MUCH better choice for an aux battery and will last 10 times longer as an aux battery. I would see if they would do an exchange as the price isn't that different.

Hey, not sure if this is true, but I remember reading that you shouldn't wire the winch to the aux battery and that it is better to hook it to the main instead? I never really looked into it past that because I don't have a winch, lol. Maybe if I were you I would research a little bit more just to see which way is the preferred method before you start wiring the winch

This depends heavily on what you have wired to what. The theory is that if you wire to your main and run-down the battery you'll still have your auxiliary to help jump the main. However, that's assuming you've got all of your accessories wired to your main. My feeling is that if you have your accessories wired to your auxiliary battery then stick with that as the source of power for ALL accessories.

If the truck is running then both batteries should be connected to the alternator.
