10 Disc changer-any luck yet

I just got off the phone with SSI America. The tech told me that the disk 10 not showing up in the display is normal? Go figure.

The problem with it failing in the diagnostic is another problem. He said he opened a trouble ticket on this issue and told me to call him back in a week so he could get his hands on a Toyta NAV system.

I'll keep you updated. So far i am very impressed with their service. They sound like they actually care, but we will see.

thanks

Webshot,

So has the vendor gotten back to you about the issues you raised with them? Is the unit still functioning? Any new bugs or just the orginal ones you found?

thanx,

Well I did a little troubleshoting last weekend. I plugged in and unplugged the RSA to see if it was affecting the unit but no. I reset the NAV unit by pulling the power and nogo. Diagnostics still show the CD changer in the "NCON" status. I reported these to the manufacturer to let them know. I could make the NAV lock up everytime while programing FM stations into memory.

I will have to call them Friday.

Any news on this? Or did you end up selling your Nav?

I purchased the PIE parts for CD Changer (which they said it doesnt work, and they ARE correct.....) I tried cheating but I ended up with a ALPINE conversion for Toyota without nav.

Yes, NAV is sold. The CD Changer never did work right and SSI America S*cks when it comes to customer service. I ended up installing the changer in my wifes Toyota and it works fine there. SSI America's claim that the CD Changer will work in a 2004 4runner with NAV is false advertising and I will not do bussiness with them again.

Thanks.

I recently purchased webshot's NAV from him and was wondering if I could add a Toyota OEM 6 disc CD changer by using the 'Y' adapter on the RSA (R14) plug on the back of the NAV. Would the NAV see this changer or ignore it?

Yes a stock 6 disc CD-Changer will work! Aftermarket will not though. You will need the Y-Adapter and mounting bracket also. It mounts in the center console.

FYI on the CD Changer...

I just noticed that the changer has some bugs! So don't order it yet!

1. The NAV diagnostic fails (but it does see it)

2. Sometimes the changer causes the NAV unit to lock up

3. When switching to disc 10 it plays the music but does not show disc 10 or the time on the nav display.

I wrote SSI America an e-mail on these issues so we will see what their response is.

Thanks:mad:

Perhaps a firmware update on their interface unit will solve some of these issues?

question?

hey guys..i now have my back-up camera for my Solara nav unit and i got the heater button for the mic and am all ready to finally do my install. as some of you may remeber, i was waiting till i had everything so i only had to tear apart the center console one time. I am a bit of a clutz sometimes and am very scared of screwing up my T4R. So doing once makes sense for me.
Now my question, i have been told by others that although my current Toyota 6 cd changer in dash plays my burned music cd's that the new Solara Nav unit will not. My buddy who is an electronics repair man say he can open up the unit and switch out the cd player for another that will play my burned cd's....what do you guys think about this??? should i chance it?

xcalibur,

My Solara Nav plays my burned CDs just fine. Never had a problem with them. I would be very skeptical that someone would be able the change out the cd player in the Nav system. I have not seen one like that before but anything is poss.

Anyway, I'd leave it alone and install that unit.

I gave up with the MP3 player scenario, and installed a factory CD changer. I ended up putting it in my glove compartment on that top shelf thing.

But you cannot listen to CD-Changer CD's from the RSA. Everything else works (incl. steering wheel controls), but the back seat people are stuck listening to the standard sounds (CD/Radio) and it will play burned CD's just fine... (just in case you guys wanted to know)
