Magnuson Supercharger for 2010-Present & 2010-2014 FJ

Pulled 336whp/301 ft lbs. may have a little more to go. Stay tuned and keep an eye on your inboxes.

FYI, that is over 415hp at the crank :faint2:

These typically dyno 230ish stock, So over +100 Rear wheel, which is about +130 at the crank.

48+ % increase in HP. Maybe a few of the haters will be re-thinking this after all. It's actually way more than I expected. Hopefully, no goofy correction factor or dyno tricks going on here...(which is always a legitimate possibility) The pilot users should clarify all that.

Want!

Theirs dyno'd at 250whp/240tq but understand that was on HT. If you are running larger tires like an MT or any aggressive mold, you will not make that.. Expect roughly 20 or so less. This is corrected and it was a great experience. I can tell you this thing screams. I bet this gets adjusted/tweaked in the coming days. More pics and videos to come.

This is ridiculously awesome to hear. Looking forward to hearing back on the pilot before my wife discovers this money I have been hiding and turns it into a lame sectional sofa. Either way, this baby is going on my 4Runner sooner or later.

someone has to ask

If this is really making 400hp/tq - can an 8" differential handle it?

Its a lot more than I thought based on everything I've read about the internals - what rpm? Does the dyno chart go further to the right? Looks like about 6500rpms or so.

If they got 250 stock.. that is only a 10% loss on the dyno (pretty unusual from my experince.. but I have not been around dynos in 10+ years). That or it is actually making about 295 stock with the more typical 15% loss.

So using 10%.. it would be more like 370hp at the flywheel. More like what I expected. Still plenty and a solid improvement. Drivability is all that really matters anyway in this application.

With my experience I agree, you normally would see more. But I have also seen this happen on other vehicles where the HP from the factory was not that far off the whp received while on the dyno. Also depends on the dyno that is used because each dyno varies in percentage loss and its ebrake system and obviously can be skewed with. But I was there and this is true. In regards to drivability, y'all will be very impressed with how smooth this car acts while cruising around and how quiet it is. But the moment you give it just a little throttle it wakens up quick and just starts whining.

Not if you are crawling on rocks thats for sure.

Crawling on rocks is usually a 5mph max venture. You won't be "in the boost" while crawling. I have seen stock 4.0s break stuff going too fast over stuff, or spinning and suddenly regaining grip, then snap.... that is driver skill and knowledge, not horsepower's fault.

These blowers have almost no parasitic loss so while you are crawling along you should basically not be able to tell its got the blower.

Now I'm IN NO WAY a crawler. But when I did a trail recently in my SC'd 2nd gen, I never heard the blower whine once. I imagine it's a similar system where light throttle doesn't activate the SC. And generally speaking, flooring it over an obstacle just seems like you're asking for trouble... Again, VERY inexperienced. But I hate the thought of breaking something. Slow and easy seems to be a better move in most cases.

And please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just using thoughts and minimal experience.

It's funny, I've seen many comments around the web related to this kit where people seem to think a super charger is on all the time....

Yes, it is spinning all the time,,, but it is not typically making boost. Most of the time you are in bypass/blow off mode. You only get boost when you loose vacuum in the manifold and the bypass valve shuts (eg 50% throttle...)

You won't even feel it until you get into the throttle pretty good. Also, It's not like a turbo and it won't sneak up on you and spool all of the sudden. You should have full control with the throttle with no surprises.

However, we all know how the VVTI kicks in on these motors.. so it might feel a bit angry when that kicks in and it gets near good VE.. but hard to say until you drive one with it and feel the tune/tq..

I think you are no more likely to break a diff or CV with this kit. If you have a heavy foot and a :flamethrwoer2: attitude, you can break it easy in stock form. More power on tap is not going to change that (especially in 4L conditions).

I hope people don't get this kit and try to turn their 5th gen into a Raptor/side by side or even worse.. .a rock bouncer. It won't be a good outcome.

Yea, you nailed it.. ON trails the mindset should always be.. as slow as possible as fast as necessary. This goes for going both up and down. Sometimes you need a little momentum or have to let it roll to avoid getting wheels off the ground, but you try to only use it only when necessary. Especially on IFS.. With a solid axle you can get a bit more aggressive, but it is still not smart if you want the truck to last. Jeeps tend to wheel with more momentum... It's not really because of the vehicle.. just more the mindset of the typical jeep group. Sometimes it is the only way to make it though...

6k rpm. It is a very smooth power curve on 6lbs.

Hey THESS...just nerding out here but, the white Magnuson "test truck" shown with the Dyno sheet appears to have 1. larger heavier tires than stock and 2. some kind of exhaust system (or just a fancy tip). Can you confirm either? Both would factor into the Dyno results. Just curious!

You are not always in boost and you can see that in the graph. The supercharger is always helping but very minimal at low speeds or minimal load. It is a very easy driver and mellow while cruising. You will sometimes forget its there. But the moment you start laying a heavier foot, it starts whining and pulling.
Emails are going out. If you don't receive by the weekend it means that your rig wasn't chosen. Please don't take it personally. Please don't come on here angry that you weren't picked either. Id like to keep this thread open for those who truly are interested and want to get updates along the way. Many of you have some of the cleanest and innovative builds and have my utmost respect. However, I did not pick the people or have a say in it. But I do know is that people were picked beyond what was all done to their rigs. It will be people from different locations and different backgrounds in skill set, different builds etc. There is a reason behind it. I will continue to post here and update yall with the progress and any further info.

The tires in the image were from when it returned from its long trip up to FJ then to AZ. Those were taken off and the rims and tires that came with the vehicle (SR5 wheels & HT tires) were put back on. The exhaust is factory and the tip is just a tip. Same one that came on my Trail.

The 8" rear diff hardly holds up to what I've been doing in the rocks with the stock V8. Of course I've got a lot of extra weight and 35's but I killed the original diff by not doing a whole lot. We'll see how the new diff with the solid pinion spacer holds up...

It's hard to tell what the stock vs supercharged dyno graph may be by guessing at this point (I haven't seen one anyway...) But with a supercharger I've always thought you do get a decent boost at the lower RPMs too. Check out this F150 dyno run. +30hp and +100tq at 2000rpm. If the 4Runner graph resembles this trend, it might be closer to +15hp and +40tq so maybe not much, but like I said, IMO the OEM diff can't really handle stock power on the rocks with 34s-35s and extra weight, let alone adding a supercharger on top of things.

It all depends on the tune and a comparison to a V8 with a supercharger and a v6 isnt a fair comparison. You also dont want too much immediate tq or you will start breaking things especially if your stock. The curve on the tune currently being ran is very smooth and has power when you need it.
