maintenance

Perhaps a mod could update the maintenance sticky thread with the following information (Or similar) right under oil change:

Lubricate Propeller Shaft
Lubricate the propeller shaft spiders and
slide yokes with lithium-base chassis
grease and the double cardan joint with
molybdenum-disulfide lithium-base chassis
grease. Re-torque the bolts to 88 N·m (65ft·lbf)

Why? Apparently nobody reads it anyway lol.

ya but for my tacoma its every 30k regardless how u drive. the 4 runner maintenance book seemed very vague. plus to check those fluids u have to put a new crush washer on everytime and what not.

Your Tacoma has a Decade old engine, with copper spark plugs and Dyno oil. It is on a maintenance schedule that was developed back in 2004. Even a 2015 Tacoma still has basically all of the same stuff as it did back in 2004....

This is 2014 where we have things like synthetic oil with 10k+ OCIs. We use Iridium Tipped spark plugs that last over 100k miles, and have synthetic diff fluids that last over 50k miles. We also have "Lifetime" WS-ATF fluid that apparently will never need to be changed!

so diffs around 50k>? did say that any where lol. my tacoma runs synthetic everything also in the diffs and still calls for a change.

LOL...when are new members going to learn...this is not a forum for asking the same questions over and over. It's a forum for posting the same wheel/roof-rack and lift pictures...over and over.

My 2001 Maxima has 100k mile spark plugs and 8k OCI for any oil (and lab tests ok to 10k+), as did my 2004 Toyota Matrix. Actually, even a 1990 Ford Taurus 3.0L had platinum plugs good for 100k (with a distributor, doh!). So there is a lot of assumption in the copper spark plugs comment, just sayin'.

Toyota Type IV transmission fluid is also a synthetic base, and is considered "lifetime" in some applications. Shoot, so is Nissan Matic-D and K.

My 2011 4Runner, as well as my 2013 Tundra, have regular and severe schedules still. As in, they recommend changing the diff and transfer case oil every 25k (or was it 20? the stealership "advisors" advise to not bother) if you tow, have a roof rack (with something on it presumably) or do other "severe" things. Lubricant life is an interesting thing, short of a lab test, there is no right answer.

I am not assuming the 2nd gen Tacomas run Copper Spark Plugs...I know they do. Same as the 4th gen 4runner, and the early FJs (With the single VVTI 1GR-FE) They are copper from the factory, and the maintenance guide calls for 30k mile changes.

I was just trying to point out that Toyota's service intervals have changed since that single VVTI 1GR-FE equipped Tacoma was introduced in 2004.

Interdasting. I had expected more from Toyota.

Then again, Chrysler's v8 hemi engines still had copper plugs in a number of applications, with 20k intervals to at least 2014.

Never in my life have I seen this called a spider:

Spider gear has always been this:

I learn something new every day!

I thought I must have must missed the interval for changing the ATF? Lifetime fluid - is it possible to change and has anyone done it yet?
