it cant be all that bad,

i suggest using the cut off disc to get the bars off and then sand it flush.

the black diamond plate idea isnt bad although personally i'd go with black powdercoat myself.

the only difficulties of that being would be to remove the plastic bit on either side.

I paid about $370 with some discount codes I had. If you call them up, they might offer you some small discount as a "first time" buyer

I got mine in NYC. The driver helped me unpack it and inspect it. The product was in great condition when I received it
 
theres a bit of a trick to installing them on the TE's

it'll be a very tight fit, as in the grille guard will be touching part of the bumper. you'll need to install the top bars first then add a little downward pressure and mount the bottom.

the grille guard install kit should come with some adhesive back foam for the top bars and the grille guard where it contacts your bumper.

Yup agreed on the powder coat, if I do go the diamond plate route I probably will have the pieces powder coated. Also I can see where the plastic bit might be a problem, I will have a better idea of how to finish it once I have it in hand.

no problem,

on a limited they should fit without any problems, the trail bumper sticks out a touch more than the limited i believe, hence why some people had trouble installing theirs.

looking forward to the pics!
 
The grill guard finally arrived today but will have to wait a couple days til I get a chance to take a look and formulate a plan. I'll keep ya's updated.
 
Hey guys, finally got a chance to get started on this. Again I'm looking for it to be more along the lines of a police style push bar.

Heres what I started with, pic of jca21's as I don't have a before.


First up I cut off the headlight guards with a sawzall. The tubing wall is very thin on these, I'd be surprised if it were any more than a 1/16th of an inch thick

I was trying to avoid taking off the rubber that covers the uprights but while cutting the light guards I nicked it with the saw so off they came. These look as though they are pressed or slid along the T from the factory, I tried to slide them off the same way but they wouldn't budge so I pried them over the T with a large screw driver, hopefully I can slide em back on.

Next I used my Dremel (only because the the metal was so thin) and about 6-8 cut off wheels to remove the rest of the tubing down to the weld, sorry no pic

Then using my 4 1/2" grinder I ground down the welds with a metal wheel then used a 120 grit flap disc to smooth them all out nice, again sorry no pics. I was on a roll and couldn't stop ;):

I ended up sanding both sides of each upright due to the crappy paint job they did at the factory :( Then primed and painted

Tomorrow I'll get a good look at in the sun to see how well the rattle can black matches. If it looks good you'll see some pics of it on the truck here tomorrow night. If it looks like $hit I'm gonna drop it off it the local powder coat guy and have him re-coat the entire thing in matte black. Hmm that makes me think...maybe I'll lust let the powder coater do it in matte...stay tuned!

This thing better look good on my truck or I'm gonna be pissed :lmao:

Sorry didn't get a chance to even look at it today. Hopefully the paint matches so I can get it finished tomorrow otherwise it's off to be powder coated and who knows how long that'll take.
 
Got it finished today :) Man what a PITA putting the rubber back on :toilet3: and then mounting the brackets to the bumper bolts was a pain too, just no room there.

Anyhow here it is. Not so sure I like the end result, while my grinds and paint looked good in the shed and outside now that its mounted they don't look so good to me. Time will tell weather it stays or goes :shrug:

NICE! Exactly what I want to do!!! Excited to see it actually looks like what I had hoped for! Can you get a close up of where you cut off the bars? EDIT: NEVERMIND...just realized I saw that pic the other day...

Looks great! IMHO you should keep it! Looks sick! Might even look better with everything else de-chromed. but that's just my style.

Great job!
