Most Miles on 1 Tank of gas?

I think it might be the fuel gauge. I made a post in the general forum and Yotatech, and they all said to not go by the fuel gauge becasue its very inaccurate.

ok i just put 14.992 gallons in the t4r... a grand total of 38.36..ouch! and i changed my oil today, and im thinking about grabbing a k&n air filter soon...so im lookin for any way possible to help the gas mileage cause here!

i have a 96 4runner limited 4wd V6
i can get about 285 miles per tank of gas and i have 18gal tank but thinking of making some upgrades can ne 1 help me

Upon looking at my Air Filter I am under the impression that it is installed correctly...

THen lol, why the hell does my guage read 55 miles after a half tank of gas? :bash:

Lmao.... I don't drive uphill speeding all the time.

We'll both in this together. I'm close to the Empty mark with 125 miles on my tank. I think it could be the gauge incorrectly reading it, I may have to just measure my MPG.

i be the one ya'll can go by i don't seem to have any fuel guage problems (knock on wood)... however i would like to get a few more mpg's... I also have a 96 limited... with a oem replacement air filter...soon to be k&n...

I filled up Saturday
15 gals

So, my tank emptied at around 130, or at least it said empty. I bought 14.8 gallons for 130 miles.

Which is less than 9 miles per gallon. Problem is that I filled up again with only $10 worth of gas becasue my atm card wasn't working and I only had like $15 of money on me. So I couldn't actualyl see how many gallons I could fill in that tank.

So I'm PRAYING that it is either a one time thing like that one guy said, OR my meter is terribly off and I'm going to fill up only like 10 gallons worth of gas next time I try to top off.

This week I drove around with the truck full of stuff just to see how a little weight would change things. I have basically everything one needs to camp and a whole lot more, along with a full cooler in the back. I did notice a bit of a decrease as I usually get 310-330 miles on a tank. This week, my light came on at 283 miles, and now I'm at 300 with the needle still a bit above the E-line.

All this on a bone stock 2001 4x4 Sport with ~70,000 miles. I think it all comes down to having a light foot and not setting a cruise speed too high. In a 55 zone, I won't exceed 62 and in a 65 zone, I won't exceed 72. I've seen dramatic differences from just this one change. Good luck guys.

mileage

Just checked my actual miles on a full tank of gas for maybe the first time ever. My employer pays my fuel bill so...

Anyway on a full tank for my 1998 4x4 ltd auto (182,000) I got a surprising 305 miles and I was just about at 'E'. I know if I had to I could have gotten another 15-20 miles out of it too.

My driving consists of approx. 80% highway, 20% around town.

I use only 93 octane and have used it for the last 2 years.

Using 93 isn't doing you anything, you should save yourself a little cash and drop down to midgrade which is 89 in your area, right?

93 octane

When my 4Runner was a young pup, I agree - the cheap stuff was fine. A few years ago the knocks and pings were getting worse and worse, especially climbing hills etc. I immediately switched to 93 octane (from 87) and immediately the knocks and pings went away.

Keep in mind, I've got 182000 miles on my vehicle.

my 4runner has 135000 miles should i go with 87 89 or 93 octane and its stock bone too will be upgrading to k &n cold air intake and true flow filter in the next week what do u guys prefer

Ok an update for NV and Drew... I have 47 miles and on this tank and it just dropped below the 1/4 mark... I drive 95% around town/stop and go

I can drive for miles and miles....

Just bought my runner a month ago. Decided to give it a shot and came up with 312 miles until the light came on. Filled her up and still had 2 gallons more gas that I could have run on. SO, I could have driven another 30 or so miles.

TOTAL = APPROX: 342 MILES

Much higher than I thought.

Just the facts:
2000 runner
4x4
255/70/16
92,000 miles
Driving was 65% highway

Stay safe,
Mike

Well Im pretty much ALL CITY, so my mileage will be substantially less. I've noticed that my gas guage drops like a rock from FULL to 1/2 TANK, but then stays around there for the majority.

I guess you could say that my 4runner can't pick between being a pessimest, or an optimist.

Yup I'm starting to think that we might not have too big of a problem.

A lot of these people getting like 250 miles to the tank is driving a lot of highway.

But hte people getting less, me and you drew, are driving ALL city pretty much.

My mother's stock '99 Limited sees about 260 a tank (15 gallons at fill-up) with about a 4th of it highway with her driving;I had it for two weeks and I dropped it down to 230ish a tank. :p

I get 16 on the highside mpg vs my mom's 17+mpg.

Anytime I had to use 4wd for an extended period of time it would also knock my mileage down about 2mpg.
