Could be a O2 sensor since those can run rich and not always throw a CEL.

How much would it be to replace an O2 sensor?

As long as your truck isn't a CA emissions vehicle (mine is) you should be able to get one for a little over $100 but the CA Runners use a air-fuel ratio sensor which is in the neighborhood of a $170 which sucks.

I would check your O2 sensor and see what that does. If you have a computer it will tell you what the code is for that. I get over 300 mpg with 32-10.5-16 mud tires at 40 psi, with the ECT on. Stock everything else. Good luck!!

Limit your idling

Here are some facts about me and my car:
-I sometimes do hard accels, and sudden stops. I once in awhile floor it.
-My PSI right now is at 26. I haev 31x10.5x15 tires. The maximum tire PSI is 40.
-In San Francisco, the mornings are cold, and the weather is generally could, it does warm up latter in the day. But only somtimes.
-I do not use ETC, I have stock everything except head unit lol.

Would anyone recommend anything to get better gas mileage?

Try to avoid excessive engine idling. I had a V-6 and the mileage suffered when I did a lot of sitting still with the engine idling. I don't turn the engine off at traffic lights, or even going through a drive-thru... but if you're waiting at the grocery store, or making a phone call, etc., shut the engine off. You'll be suprised how much fuel that can save. Sometimes I think the V-6 idling was using as much fuel as if I was driving.

Did you ever get the tire pressure up to 32-35psi since 26 is way too low?

I've had people tell me that its normal, and people that have told me its not normal.

My gas is still at like 10 mpg. Still driving almost all city miles.

Still not normal in my book since I did pretty much a whole tank of stop and go city driving (with my ECT on) and still got almost 16mpg. 14 can be realistic on a bad tank but 10mpg is signifying a problem.
H2s get 10mpg in the city not 4Runners.

1st Fillup

After putting 180 miles on the new truck (06 Ltd. V-8), I filled it up with 11.5 gals. I feel pretty sure the dealership filled the tank at delivery (the needle was above the "F" mark), so that would give me an avg. of 15.5 mpg. There was considerable idling done the past two days while showing off the new vehicle, letting everyone make faces in the backup camera, etc.

I feel optimistic that the mileage will improve some after the break-in period is finished. We'll keep you posted.

My 97 V6 is getting just about 350 KM's to a full tank...not sure what that is in miles...but I think it's pretty shitty.

question...how big is the fuel tank on these vehicles? I always thought it was 65L...but when it only took me 51L to fill.

I average about 275 miles per tank. Only thing done to hinder better gas milage are 31" tires. Everything else is stock.

Ok... been a while since i posted an update.. and after a week driving with the ect button on i got 197 miles out of this tank... NV i think you should try it and see what you get...

Hey guys, still getting bad gas mileage. I'm pretty sure its my O2 sensor. I'm getting maintenance in like a week or two. So I'll keep you guys updated.

Right now I'm averaging 10-11 mpg all city.

with the k & n inatke fipk2 i am getting about 300 to 310 on a 17 gal tank fill up
but it varies sometimes i ll hit 285 before the fuel light comes on and some times i will hit 300 before the fuel light comes on it all depends on the driving and since i have started driving with the ect on my gas milage has gone up i used to average 16.5 mpg now iam hitting 18mpg

this past week i filled up and wanted to keep track on my miles. I got a new job which requires alot of highway driving. I tried to be light on accelerate to not use as much. I got about 300 miles (about 5 days) before i got scared that i was going to run out. I just installed a trueflow and irid spark plugs. so i think that helped a little bit.

Yah I'm thinking it could be spark plugs, o2 sensor, or other stuff. I need to get it checked up. My 150 miles city isn't really doing me well.

i've got a 99 3.4l v6 with 112k. I just changed my airfilter cleaned the throttle body and the mass airflow sensor. and I just got 190 miles out of half a tank with cruise on 80 while 100 miles over an oil change.

Yeah that definately helped a lot since it was pretty dirty. And yeah those were highway miles with cruise on 80
